Is Plain Dry Food The Ideal Way?

We feed dry kibble with a half a can of wet food at each feeding. you could add a tablespoon of yogurt to the kibble also it helps with gas

Mine get plain dry most of the time. Sometimes I mix a little something in but I have to be careful with Rufus, he has a sensitive stomach and seems to be prone to allergies.
I think it is just important to use a high quality kibble, and when Rufus had difficultly keeping weight on I always added a little canned food or yougurt to the food to keep his calorie intake up. I don't think there is one "right" way to feed a dog. Extras are fine as long as they are a healthy weight and not getting too heavy.
Just keep common sense into play. Research the food you feed to make sure it is a high quality food. I've heard some people say that canned isn't as good but I think that rule applies to substandard foods which is basically anything found in the grocery store. But you probably already know that.

Mia was not respondiong well to dry or dry mixed w/canned food. See my thread My dog has "spells". It has been nearly a week since I posted this thread. I cook Mia's food now-she is bursting with energy, put on weight and is just a normal healthy puppy!

With that approach it is best to make an educated decision on which kibble brand to chose and what fits your budget. If you chose to include additions to the kibble, such as you list, this is a good way to introduce variety and other sources of nutrition to the diet.

Switching
Ok so after a few days of reading up, I have come to the conclusion that the dog food I feed my dog Nutro Large Puppy is not the best for him.
My only hesitation to switching is that I only switched him about a month ago from Puppy Chow to Nutro. Shoul let him continue on Nutro, I don't want him to have stomach problems with all the switching.
I think I'm gonna go with the Chicken Soup brand of dog food. It seeems to be the forum favorite.

You can gradually switch from the Nutro to the CS. Add a little Chicken Soup at a time so there is more of his Nutro than CS at first..then slowing add more and more CS. Should do fine doing it that way.
I personally just switched from the garbage the breeder was feeding the pups to CS with in a few days their coats looked better, no eye boogies, stools were much firmer and less per day..and they love eating it.

Just take it slow and watch for any signs of tummy upset. Add a few pieces of kibble at a time to the Nutro for about 10 days and you should be fine. CS is a great food and it is sooo much better for your dog than Nutro or Puppy Chow!Boogie said:

Oh..forgot to add. My pups get dry CS mixed with a bit of canned CS. I add a dab of yogurt w/every other feeding.
I was feeding exclusivly dry but they started turning their noses up to the dry, so I grabbed some of the Iams Savory Sauses (yeah i know..ewww Iams..) and they seemed to eat much better. Then I decided I'd rather them eat wet food as opposed to using the sauses. So it cut out the sauses and just do the wet/dry thing now. They LOVE eating again And it was cheaper to go w/wet/dry than dry/w sauses.
I pay about $1.15/can wet. I use a can or so a day and the Iams Sauses cost 9.99 for 3 at BJ's (like a Costco). I went through the sauses quick and spent too much $ on them.
