Hi, just looking for some answers in this AWESOME BOXER COMMUNITY!! :)
Here's the situation.
I use about a cap full of extra virgin olive oil on Summers food every night so she will eat her lamb and rice dog food. She use to eat her food without any type of dressing or extra flavor. Now she won't eat her food without the oil all because I heard a rumor that small amounts of olive oil are good for their coats and skin so I tried it out one night. She loves the extra flavor and won't eat without it now.

My questions:

1) Is the oil actually good for their coats and skin?

2) Does anyone else use extra flavors to spice up their boxers
food?

Hope someone can shed some light on this scene for me. Thanks

Cliff;)

We use sunflower oil in our our dog food sometimes (olive oil is fine too..... just a little more expensive.......LOL).

We don't really add anything for "flavour" as such, most of what we feed we hope has some benefit to our dogs. (And yes i also believe vegatable oil does make your dogs coats shine...??)

We feed food such as - raw chicken necks, wings, frames, raw meat (ie beef or kangaroo), raw vegies (done in the food processor), left over food (no onions), tomatoe juice, yogurt, apple cider vinegar etc etc.......

They don't get all this in the one night, so i suppose they enjoy the variety, but then maybe our 2 are little piggies that would eat just about anything.......LOL

Thanks Sam and Matt for the usefull insight, I appreciate the response. The olive oil is a bit expensive but i use it for cooking as well. Maybe I'll try the sunflower seed oil and see if likes that type of oil instead.

Those other combos of mixed veggies and meat sound like a grand feast for energetic boxers!

Thanks again. beericon
