The best priced good quality food you're likely to find is Canidae www.canidae.com I believe you'll be able to find it at around $30-35 for a 33lb bag.

That is still a higher price for the bag compared to the grocery store junk. But that's only one part of the equation ;) You feed a lot less of the good stuff. Typically on Canidae, you'd be feeding an adult boxer between 2-3 cups daily. With many lower quality foods, you can be feeding more than twice that (which means you've got to buy 2 bags for every 1 of Canidae). On that basis, food like Canidae is no more expensive and can actually work out cheaper (not even including the better health and probable less vet fees in the long run that results).

Thank you very much! I appreciate your response. I'll see where I can get Canidae. The feeding less thing makes it easier to sell to my husand :):) I just did a quick search for Canidae and it is priced as you stated. So, now my question is, which kind do I get? We will be picking up our puppy in 15 Days!!! It looks as though they are all sufficient for a puppy? Thanks again! I just LOVE this site.

If it is hard for you to get good kibble you could always consider raw. I have found it to be cheaper than I thought it would be and my baby boy loves it.

Canidae on-line-shipping is how much?!?!?!?!

Boy, living in small town Iowa sucks! I couldn't find a store that sells the food nearby. All of the feed stores I called that told me they could order it, told me I would have to buy the entire pallet. I dont' think so. I found Canidae on-line and the sites I found have a decent price for the food, but the shipping is outrageous. $25-31 a bag to ship! So, I guess I'm going to have to make the long drive to buy it as the price of gas is still cheaper than those shipping costs!

Is there a Tractor Supply Co. near you? I'm from Waterloo and I noticed that they sold Diamond the last time I was home. If not, I'd do Iams or Purina One (these are usually sold at Wal Mart/Target).

what puppy food

I have had Laila almost two weeks now and have researched dry puppy food as well as talked to people in the business...I am now switching her to Timberwolf which she seems to love...she is picking it out from the rest of her food and eating that first...! I can buy it in my town but was told they ship for free (??) you can check it out online at their website...as for the cost...I think in the long run you will have a happier, healthier pup...good luck...Barbara Boston area

I also get our food from petfooddirect, it cost me $25 for the largest bag of canidae. and that was after shipping! They normally ship it out very quickly, but sometimes you have to wait for the newest food to come in, that way you get the freshest available.

I just checked thier website and the food was $29.99, but the shipping is $18. Free shipping would make this a slam dunk.....
