I don't have alot of foods to choose from because I live in a small town so what are some of the better dry foods: kibbles and bits, pedigree, alpo... for a puppy and how many time do you feed on for it to be at a healthy weight??

At the top of this forum there is a sticky titled 'How to choose a good dry dog food' that should give you some good advice. On the food that you choose there should be guidelines as to the amount you need to feed your pup, these are usually calculated by the pups weight, so you will need to know that. For a 12 week old I would think 4 x daily. :)

Don't forget if you can not get a good food locally you can order on line. It comes quickly and some do not even charge to ship :)

No, no , no!!! All of those foods are horrible! Do not buy anything you can find at a grocery store or Walmart!! Find the closest supplier of quality kibble, or order online. If you do some research, you will find that some fine quality foods are the same price, or not much more expensive then the crap! Even if it means driving an hour to get a good food, try buying a few bags at a time so you don't have to make the trip too often.

It's quite an eye opener, isn't it? Good luck with finding a new supplier!

I have to order dog food because I live in the sticks. I order from Petfooddirect and have been very happy with them. They always have coupons out which help offset the shipping charges. Actually, I just got a code in my email that is good for the next 4 days for 22% off, of course when I just ordered more food last night
The code is PET3431 anyone can use it.

Please, Please help me find some good dog food for a decent price! My husband is having a fit at the price of the good foods listed. $45 a bag is quite steep compared to $17 or less at WalMart! I've had no luck finding comparable prices for the foods listed on this site......

Thanks
Marsha

The best priced good quality food you're likely to find is Canidae www.canidae.com I believe you'll be able to find it at around $30-35 for a 33lb bag.

That is still a higher price for the bag compared to the grocery store junk. But that's only one part of the equation ;) You feed a lot less of the good stuff. Typically on Canidae, you'd be feeding an adult boxer between 2-3 cups daily. With many lower quality foods, you can be feeding more than twice that (which means you've got to buy 2 bags for every 1 of Canidae). On that basis, food like Canidae is no more expensive and can actually work out cheaper (not even including the better health and probable less vet fees in the long run that results).
