I have a boxer male who is 5 years old and have been thinking about rescuing a playmate for him but my husband thinks he is too old now and would be jealous what do you think. By the way he is very very spoiled no kid so he is the center of attention.

Not too old at all :)

We adopted Kailee when Buddy was 7 years of age, and even though they only had 7 short months together, they were good months. Kailee was 2 at the time, and given her young age, she had a ton of spunk that seemed to liven up a more retired acting boxer ;) Buddy spent his last months living like a puppy again, and enjoying each day he had with her.

Now, we have adopted Clyde who turns two in June. Kailee is 4 1/2 years of age, had just over two years of being the only furchild, and this too has gone well. There have been zero issues between them, they enjoy each others company, and play together pretty much all day.

We too had no skin kids during this time, Buddy was the centre of our lives, as was Kailee for the past two years, but both accepted a new fursibling without any problems. I believe if your present boxer is secure in the relationship they have with you, they are not threatened by a newly adopted sibling. I say go for it :D

No, I don't think it's too old. I got Samantha when Pepper was 8, and I think that was too old. But Pepper finally accepted her, and they are best buds now.

Our case may be a little "extreme" but by golly it's working. Our Goliath was 11...yes 11 when we brought home 14 week old Jack!

We introduced them in our back yard hoping that Goliath would accept him (had just lost our Hannah at age 9 just four months earlier). Well the very first thing Goliath did was run under the deck!! Oh No, we thought.....until he came out seconds later with a toy in his mouth, ready to play! They get along great. Now there are times when Jack gets to be a bit "much" for poor ol Goliath to handle...BUT, Goliath lets him know when it is time to chill out and the next thing you know they are cuddled up somewhere together taking a nap. It was the very best thing we could have done for Goliath and for us! I say go for it!!

Sweet story djk - I always love to hear about Mr. Goliath and Master Jack. One of these days, I'm gonna have to meet them.

:)

Oh, yeah - I agree with Jean and Debbie. Capulet loved the younger dogs: the younger the dogs around her, the younger she acted. She really enjoyed wearing the puppies out. She passed away peacefully at 14 in her sleep after a day in the park.

Wow Cubby 14 - what a grand old age and such a nice way for her to go.

Diva was just over three years when I got Monty. Diva and Monty do get on - playing etc, but they don't cuddle - never have done, although now they will actually sit on the couch together without me having to be there. Diva cuddles bigtime with me and so does Monty, but Diva is definitely the queen bee lord it over Monty type of dog :)

Go for it, but look for another dog where that you think will fit with your current boxer boy:)

Not too old. There are 5-1/2 years between my two and they are wonderful together. It took a couple of days, but after that, the older one became quite the buddy and teacher to the pup.

When we adopted Winston, he was three and Cheyenne was four. She'd always been our only child, and was very, very spoiled. She got all our attention, all the toys, all the treats, everything.

She was none to happy for the first month, but when she realized that we weren't getting rid of that slobbery intruder, she decided that she'd make the best of a bad situation. They don't cuddle together either, but they play hard all day long and crash together on the "dog bed" or their beds (which are side by side in our bedroom).

I think it's the best thing we could have done for her.
