Is he to old to neuter?

Hello everyone.
I have a question for some of you that have had experence with older boxers. How old is to old to neuter.
My boxer (Bosco), is going to be six in May and isn't neutered yet. I have read everyones post on how it is the best health wise to neuter your dog. Now, after I have came to the realization that I am not going to have a chance to breed him. I want to do whats best for him. At the higher age is it dangerous to him, also will he get depressed or his additude change if I have him cut this late in life.
Thanks for your help on this subject. Anytime I have had any questions about the boxer breed. I come to you people everything I have learned from this site has been usefull. Thanks for everyones help once again.

I'm sure it's fine to neuter Bosco. Usually you have the option of running a pre-anesthetic blood screen to make sure the dog's organs are functioning properly and that he can withstand the anesthesia. So you might want to do that just to put your mind at ease.

In rescue, we neuter dogs Bosco's age ALL the time. We neutered a ten-year-old not long ago. He was healthy so we went ahead with it and he is doing fine in his new home.

It will be fine to neuter him. He will have less chance of prostate cancer and testicular cancer if you go ahead and do it. The longer a male lives with his parts, the higher the chance of this type of cancer. He probably won't know the difference when he gets neutered. He has already had all the hormone changes he really needs to act like a boy dog. He'll be fine. Good Luck!

Ditto the health benefits. I am with rescue also and every dog regardless of age is neutered and it is a wise decision.

Good advice here! Go ahead and neuter your baby boy, he'll have a better chance of escaping some serious diseases in his golden years! I agree that you should always do pre-surgical bloodwork, and if that's OK he should be fine!
