This web site has been such a wonderful tool for a new boxer owner like myself!! I really appreciate all the information I can find here.
Well, my Truman still isnt sleeping at night!! We have been ignoring his crying but he goes on and on for hours!! Any other advice on this problem would be very helpful.
But my new concern is his growling!! I take him daily for some excerise and fun, to play with my brothers 3yo female mixed dog. They seem to have a blast playing but I'm worried that his bahavior might be a little aggressive. He growls like no puppy I've ever heard in my life. You'd think you were hearing a 110lb. attack dog!! My brothers dog, Montana doesnt seem to get upset but the growling bothers me. And he bites her A LOT!! Seems like he is always going for her neck!! However, in his defense, he will stop, at least momentarily, when I tell him "stop, no bite" and he will roll on to his back, with his belly up which I always heard was a sign of submission. Do boxer pups always have such a deep growl? Is this just normal play or should I not allow him to play with other dogs so much?
Thanks

How old is Truman? My Tyson is 11 weeks old and he has a pretty deep growl. He is constantly after Moose, biting his neck, his ears, his tail, you name it. This is normal puppy play. Moose is very good with Tyson and never nips at him. Im no expert but I think allowing him to play with other dogs is very important, he needs to be socialized at a young age or he may become dog aggressive when he is older. You may be able to find more information on this subject by doing a search. :)

You have the same concerns as me. I have been thinking the same thing. Junior is 10 weeks old and Jake is almost 2yrs. old. Junior has Jake pinned to the ground most of the time. Junior plays very aggressively. I thought maybe it was because all of his friends are full grown, so he acts like mr. tough guy. I try to break up the play when it gets to loud.
Junior is going to puppy obediance classes in a few weeks. I want him to play with puppies too.

Biting

I've had Harvy 8 1/2 Weeks old BIG BOXER DOG for 4 days now... he's just had his 1st jab... the vet told us to introduce him to other dogs that we now are fully vacinated ASAP - (the benfits far outway the risks) BUT!!! he's got a nasty habit of biting the other dogs dangly bits... they turn on him as anyone would... but rather than back down to these big adult dogs... after he's been barked at and been shown teeth etc he has a go back... he's very cocky... But long term he's needs to learn that he's not the boss or we are goning to have big trouble... May be try socializing him more

I now have a 1 and half year old boxer and she did the same things-I was amazed at how she had no problem going up against these huge dogs. She didn't growl that much, but she definitely had no fear. I think part of it is that it is in their nature to get on their hind legs and start "boxing" other dogs--even though they are only playing it looks much worse. We have our dog play with other boxers and she is fine (because they play the same way)-there are some dogs who are intimidated by my dog for the aggressive play, so she only has a few true dog friends-I remember also being worried, but it continues to be her only playing, not being angry in any way!! Our friends who have boxers said the same thing about their boxers and their play with other dogs-hope this helps

When chance and seffy play it sounds as if they are going to slit each others throats. They are very agressive when they are palying. I only get concerned when their fur stands up. When that happens, I know that they are really mad and will hurt the other. Just relax and let them play! They are enjoying themselves. As long as they know when to quit when you ask them to, you should be OK.
