Is dog shampoo really necessary

We just bought our puppy some oatmeal puppy shampoo and it was pretty pricey. I looked at the ingredients and noticed nothing particularly different from human sensitive skin shampoo. I've used an all natural oatmeal shampoo for myself in the past and am wondering if I should just use that for Rocco once we run out of the doggy shampoo that we just bought.

What do you think?

I use baby shampoo on Harley, smells really nice and makes his coat nice and shiny.

I also like to use baby shampoo. Then you don't have to worry if you get it in Harley's eyes because it does not burn.

Human shampoo products are generally considered too harsh for dog's skin - and yes, that includes baby shampoos. Shampoo is detergent, after all, and whilst they may be gentle for people, we don't use them on our entire bodies ;)

Using human shampoo products may strip the dog's skin of too much of it's natural oils (as can frequent shampooing, even with products designed for dogs), so if you use them, do keep a close eye for any sign of irritation or dry skin, and stop using human products if that occurs.
