Is Cat Poop Dangerous????

I witnessed our boxer eat cat poop in the yard, and a few days later she developed Pancreatitis. The doctor said it could have been caused by eating something she shouldn't have, like cat poop. Does anyone know whether cat poop is bad or is this just a coincidence?

I think it's just coincidence. Almost every dog I have ever had got into my cat box at one time or another and they were just fine.

our dog has done the same thing, and actually ever since then he has been having issues with his tummy, but he would eat the poop and litter!
the vet told us the same thing that he might have pancreatits and the test came out negative

All of our dogs have rooted around in the litter box at one time or another. They never got sick- I on the other hand would get sick to my stomach when I would see the cat litter that had fallen off their nose or their lips, floating in their water bowl. UGH!

I have had many cat box divers and the only one who got grossed out and sick was me - the dogs were all fine. They all seem to regard that as a delicacy.

Eating cat poop gave my dog hookworms. You don't know who's cats are pooping in your yard, whether they are taken care of or not! Mine was on his heartworm med, but just started developing hookworms when it was time for his 6 month fecal test. The only thing my vet indicated could cause this was him eating cat poop out in the yard. Rabbit's don't carry hookworm. I don't know, it just scared me. You don't know what they can get!

Actually, consuming cat poop CAN cause quite a number of other diseases (same goes for the faeces of other animals). Not to mention that it's a fantastic way of spreading parasites and other nasties (coccidia, most types of worms, viruses, etc). Altogether, really something you want to prevent the dog doing if possible.

However, in the case of pancreatitis - poop eating is not a cause, but a symptom of pancreatic problems. Some info for you:
