Is a Boxer right for me ???

We all work or go to school at our house. Usually the last eprson to leave goes betwen 7:30 to 8:30. The first person to get home is around 3. Sometimes it varies aonm hour or 2 either way. We crate our dogs and they do fine. Our boy is 7 and our pup is 9 mo. We didn't crate the pup until @ 4 mo old for that long. They do ok...we have a big back yard for them to play in. Our kids have been in marching band and on weekends that we know we will be gone from early an to late pm we have boarded the dogs so as not to have cooped up all day.
We don't crate at night, unless the boy wants it. He likes his crate and prefers it if the pup is bothering him at bedtime. Duke will lie on the couch and be a potato..we have to get him motivated to move. Chloe is the energizer bunny, always on the go..but's that's they way thiey are.
Before we had the puppy we left Duke loose in the house and he was fine, but when he was younger we always crated. I would leave him loose now if he wanted, but in the am when I go to crate Chloe..he is at his crate first ready to get in.

My first boxer I raised in an apartment. I lived three blocks from the ocean. I exercised him daily and played with him indoors when walks were not possible. I also worked full time then. He was a happy dog. Didn't seem to mind living in an apartment one bit.

this is great info that you are all providing us with. I really appreciate it. We are looking into a dog walking service during the day so that he/she would not be home for that period of time solo without any interaction. It seems from the people here that a Boxer is a strong possibility for us. My wife will need to be sold a little more,and we have a lot more research to do yet. We want to be sure whatever decision we make is the right one for everynone involved,esp the dog.

wow.... it's great that you guys have spent so much effort researching! if you want to sell your wife a little more on the idea, bring her to the member galleries to show her boxer photos!! that would sell me in a heartbeat! :p
