Hi and welcome to BW!! I too have never heard of bob-tailed boxers! Huh...learn something new everyday!;) Actually, we have always called our Xena our little "bob-tailed bunny" because her tail is shorter than most!!:)
Your Boxers are beautiful! Enjoy this site and we will be looking forward to future posts and pics! Have fun!

I really like the idea of bobtail boxers, even if that means we ahve to mix a pure bred boxer, because for me, the goal is noble, no more tail docking.

I like natural ears boxers, but I really prefer boxers with a short tail, but hate to dock them only for the look.

I was wondering, can the mix with the bobtail reduce some of the health problems in the boxer breed or/and we could see new health problems from the bobtail breed?

Welcome Barrie & Gillian, what is your web-site please, I went into 'acreoaks' but nothing came up. I love the photos that you put in your gallery, with all of them you must have a continuous glaze on everything! :D Even with just our Isabelle everything gets a good glazing, she is a proper licker.

Hi Jaelle & Helene,

The Bob-tail Boxer is a UK pure breed Boxer. It was allowed to be registered after the fifth generation cross, the full story appears at www.steynmere.com. Our web site is www.acreoaks.co.uk

With any type of out cross the results can not be certain. The object in the first instant was to achieve a natural short tail, keeping the appearance we have come to know and love whilst saving the need to dock.
The originator of the Bob-tail, Dr. Bruce Cattanach was also the initiator of the heart testing programme in the UK, so health is an extremely important factor. I personally enjoy agility with our dogs and therefore a healthy heart and good joints are prime factors in looking for future dogs to include in the breeding programme.
One key development will be the tail set. Ensuring that enough thought is put into the structure at the base of the spine. As Dr.Cattanach puts it on his web site "the turn of the last century was an exciting time for dog breeders, as they crossed dogs to achieve their goal". Today we are restricted to breeding pure bred dogs and concentrating on what wins at competition. Our goal here at acreoaks is somewhat different, we want to better the breed to get dogs that are able to get more out of their lives. Negating the need to dock is a visible and we believe tangable result, the health factors are much more complex and difficult to assess. We'll only know if we are doing right by keeping dogs into old age and by maintaining contact with the people we sell pups to.

Cheers
Barry

I have just been brousing your Web-site, you have some very Beautiful/handsome Boxers, I love the arms-full of puppies.
I was surprised to hear Tommy singing 'The Little White Bull' I haven't heard that for years; I thought that you would have had 'The Lincolnshire Poacher' playing, seeing that is the area you are in ;)
There is a lady that lives in North Vancouver and she will only take in deaf Boxers, she has three white and one brindle; when she got her first one she bought a book on training deaf dogs, she decided then that she would just have a home for deaf Boxers to go to.

Hi Helene & Colleen,

The Little White Bull was a favorite song of mine when I was a lad. On hearing it on the radio a year or so ago I knew it had to be the music for our site. Whenever I hear it I think of our white boy, I'm also a Londoner so the Cockney dialect is apt.

Deafness in dogs is not as much a problem as many people (including myself prior to Benji) believe.
When we started walking him off lead he would always keep an eye out for us, remarkable when you consider he was nearly always with two or three other dogs. He has not been difficult to recall either as he loves being touched and therefore cuddles are his reward for returning. (instead of just a vocal "Good boy").

Cheers

Hi Barry and family :) Always great to see someone doing agility! That is our favourite thing. Do you find the win out system frustrating at times? Sounds like the kids are dong great :)
