Intimate Question

Tiger is 6 months old, and we got him for my fiancee Jerry's birthday. So, technically he is Jerry's dog. If Jerry and I are wrestling or play fighting, Tiger goes nuts. Barking at Jerry and getting all upset. Which I've seen other dogs do, no big deal.

Last night I was sitting at the computer and Jerry came up behind me and started giving me a shoulder message. Well, I don't get those that often, so I was in heaven. lovicon

Tiger started growling, barking, and going nuts! In order for him to stop, I have to tell him it's okay and pet him. Don't get me wrong, he loves his daddy. Has anyone else had this problem? He is so much more protective of me than of Jerry. I think Jerry's feelings get hurt when this happens. And I feel so bad! :(

Dave (my fiance`) got Sidney for me for x-mas the year before last... She is my dog but DADDY"S GIRL !!!! Females seem to be more attached to men and MALES seem to get attached to women.. GAGE my male is my little boy, he could care less about daddy. DID YOU EVER HEAR THE SAYING......
DADDYS LITTLE GIRL AND MOMMYS LITTLE BOY ????
It is a saying for children well, it is true for dogs too.
Sidney hates it when Dave and I are hugging or sitting beside each other... That is her Daddy, I aint allowed to touch him... And she is supose to be my dog :)

 I guess I should be more careful then. Whenever Jason and I are wrestling around Lexi always goes after Jason and jumps on him and bites at his arms (this is all in a playful way) I always egg her on and tell "Let's get Daddy!" I think it is normal and maybe they sense that the men are stronger. Who knows..Lexi loves us both and is just as fast to curl up on the couch with Daddy as she is with Mommy but whenever we start playing around she is at his heels not mine. That's my girl :D

Bandit is the same way with Me and Brian, he is Brian's dog, but Momma's Baby, and Bandit HATES IT when Brian gives me a hug or kiss, he goes ape-shit on Brian. He will get on his hind legs and growl, snarl, and bark at brian, although he has never gotten aggressive to the point that we have to correct him. I think it is more like his way of saying "That is my mommy, and i am the only one that should be hugging her and giving her kisses" Sometimes i swear that he is saying "Back Off Dad" and other times he is laughing at us.

Magic on the other hand, just wants the attention, so wherever Bandit is, she wants right in on the action. Hummff, that would be a boxer for you, lol

When me and my roomates are wrestling T-bone is always growling and jumping on them. It's really funny if you ask me. I think that dogs just know who there owner is and are very protective. Even though she is playing fighting with my roommates, I would feel sorry for the guy that tries to break in the house. Take it as a compliment that he is so attached to you. I think you should keep encouraging it.

In my opinion, I would not encourage that kind of behavior, and Brian and I are in the process of Breaking Bandit from this behavior, In the long run, i would not want Bandit to get the idea that it is ok for him to act this way, what if a child were to come up and hug me and bandit were to go crazy and happen to bite that child, i would be responisble, $$$ wise, and i would be guilty because i let Bandit continue that behavior.

But on the other hand, i ask myself what if i were to get robbed or raped, would Bandit be there to help protect me??? I know that Bandit has that protective instinct, and has shown it only once before, and i was glad!! But i dont want him to get angry and jealous in my own house!!

I guess it is a matter of opinion on this one!!
I realize that in my first post, i stated that "Bandit gets on his hind legs" But i know the difference between a play growl, and a protective growl. And that is where Brian and I are working with Bandit to improve. To only use a protective growl when necessary.

I guess I didn't think of it that way. I encourage it with my dog but I'm never around kids and I never get massages from my roommates. I guess in more of a family environment I would not allow it either. I was thinking of it as a protective issue.

You've got to give boxers credit for having a built-in instinct/good judgment of who's playing around and who's actually a threat to you. Dan's girls are living proof of that.

I know if my husband starts wrestling with me, Brody (his boy, but my baby) is right there to defend me. I think they are like young human kids, who think its fun to "gang-up" with one parent against the other, all in play. He sounds so vicious but it's all play. He chomps on my husband, but nothing hurtful. My husband doesn't feel hurt by this because he knows how Brody loves to pick on him. The same way my husband loves to pick on Brody (in a playful way).

I never had this experience with my first boxer boy. He would never pick sides, he was actually the mediator, the peacekeeper. My mom and I, I was 15 at the time, were playing around and she started smacking me on the arm. Well Niko got between us on his hind legs bumping BOTH of us out of the way and looking at us like "You two are crazy!!! Why are you fighting with each other??!?!" It was so cute!! A week or so later my mom tried it again, this time with the intent on seeing how Niko would react and he reacted in the same way, by bringing peace and not choosing sides. I guess it could also depend on the dog and his age?

TigersMommy, who feeds him? You or Jerry? I found out later in retrospect that Niko defended/broke us up both was because my mom and I would share the duty of feeding him. When my uncle would playfight with me, Niko would defend me and "attack" my uncle. Maybe it's just my theory. Anyone else notice this in their boxers?

Diego

Diego,

It is a shared responsiblity, since I have to be in at 6 am sleepicon Jerry normally feeds him in the morning. I normally do the second feeding in the evening. But I am the one he normally goes to when he has to go outside.
