Has anyone heard of the medication Interceptor or does anyone use it? It is a tablet given once a month to prevent heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm. The first pill was given to me when I went to the vet today as a promotional thing. They recommended as a better to be safe than sorry kinda thing. Is this just a sales pitch or is it somthing i really need to think about. Thanks!

Yes, I have used Interceptor for all of my babies for many years. My vet has recently changed the brand for me to Tri-Heart, susposed to be basically the same heartworm preventative. You would be wise to use a heartworm preventative, it isn't that costly and it could save your baby's life. Heartworm is a terrible thing for a dog to have to endure and if they develop heartworm the treatment can sometimes kill the dog so the odds of your baby surviving heartworm and or the treatment is not something you want to gamble. You don't want to subject your baby to something like this if you can prevent it. Definately check into using either Interceptor or Tri-Heart. Tri-Heart is a little less expensive then Interceptor.

I use Interceptor with Syxx. It is the same thing as Sentinel but without the flea preventative. If fleas are a problem for you then go with the Sentinel. If not go with the Interceptor (it's a little bit cheaper). Both are excellent heart worm preventatives and you should definately give your pal 1 every month. Also both help to prevent other worms as well.

Believe me, use some heartworm preventative. We are about to start heartworm treatment on Cinder and the initial estimate is $694. We just got her from a Rescue and they told us she had heartworm, but ouch, it's a big cost. And too boot, the treatment is really rough on the dog, some don't make it through. Of the many things that can go wrong, a dead worm can break loose and clog the heart, brain, anywhere.
But, it's better than the do nothing alternative where she will smply start to degenerate in health due to the worms getting worse and infecting other parts of her body.

Use the preventative, it's VERY important....
