The ingredients look very good, but I have heard reports of dogs having problems on this diet, especially when used long term (problems include excessive water drinking in a number of dogs, and dry coat in a few). People say it is better used as part of the diet, or as part of a rotation of foods, rather than fed all the time.

Has anyone fed this long term?

Those of you that do feed this...what are your results? Good, Bad, Decent, etc?

Comments/Suggestions? :)

I've never fed it. It is a good granless kibble. It is a good practise to rotate foods with varying protien sources though.
This food isn't suitable for pups younger than 18 months due to the high protien percentage.

I haven't fed it either. My boys are too young but i've also read that people have actually had their dogs lose wieght on it, not gain, due to the fact it has no grains, like a low carb diet for people. ;)

I switched Freya over to Evo recently. She's only been on it alone (not mixed with another food) for one week. Here's what I've noticed so far...

Her bm's are firmer than they've ever been in the nine months that I've had her. She has always had soft bowel movements on other foods. Oddy, she is having more frequent bowel movements than usual but they stay very solid so I'm not sure why she's going more often. I assume I'm feeding her too much and will eventually have to cut back on the amount or it's from from the recent switch.

She does seem to drink more water. I just noticed it yesterday so it's interesting you should mention it.

Can't give an opinion about a dry coat yet since she's only been on it a short time. I can't understand why it would cause a dog's coat to be dry since I believe it to be a very high quality food. I also give Freya fish oil for allergies so I may never see a dry coat with her anyway.

The dealer I buy my food from insisted Evo was only for "working" dogs, this seems to be a common misconception. So I emailed the company and asked if this was true. They said it would be just fine to feed Evo to less active dogs.

So far, I like the results I'm seeing but I'll know more in a few months.

We have been using Innova Evo for 2 mos. now. BM's are fine and their coats have never looked better. The only problem we have is the cost. Our local distributor charges $58 for a 28 lb bag and our 2 go through it pretty quick. Although they are worth every penny we have been looking for another quality food to rotate with it thats not quite so costly.

$58 US for the large bag? Yikes.. here in Canada, the 28 lb large bag is $57 Canadian currency.

Yeah, at $58 you are getting robbed. I pay $46 US for the 28 lb bag. You should shop elsewhere.

I switched my dogs over to EVO aprox 4 mnths ago. I was/am nervous about the high protein levels but I wanted to see if Abby would lose weight on it. She has slightly but MAYBE her coat is drier now you mentioned it. The Yorkie LOVES LOVES it. The rest do not seem to have nearly as much BM"S. Holly only goes once a day.
I think I like it but I am a worrier and I am keeping my eye on it. They definately all eat less.

I have been feeding it to my 2 for a couple of months now. Their stools are still relatively soft which I am not too happy with. However, my boy's coat which is normally pretty coarse is feeling a lot softer.
Neither of my 2 have lost weight on it - in fact I have dropped both of them to 3/4 cup 2x a day, instead of 1 cup, because they seemed to be picking up some weight.
I am going to be going raw with my 2, but I think that I will keep this as a back-up food.

So once the dog is 18+ months EVO is fine? I am just concerned of the high protein causing health issues, or is that obsurd? I know cats need the high protein and no carbs...but is that true for dogs? Or, are they better off with normal amounts of protein and less carbs?

Also, which one is better...the regular EVO or the Red Meat EVO? Can't seem to find the Red Meat one yet...?
