Oskar was neutered two months ago and I noticed him licking the incision on his belly last night. I looked and on his incision was two big lumps that were red and looked like there was fluid in them. I took a closer look and saw a thread that looked like fishing line sticking out of one of the lumps. I gave it a little tug and it was still connected about an inch down to the other big lump. I called the vet and i'm taking him in today. The stiches were suposed to disolve. Anyone have any ideas as to why they might not have?

I wouldn't be real worried. For some reason my guys usually end up with similar problems. The body is trying to get rid of a foreign body (the stitches) which is why you see the swollen area and discharge. The vet will probably just snip them out and it should heal right up.

So, don't worry.

Brewtus got EXTREMELY infect after his surgery. I had to make him wear a cone on his head cause he was making it worse (what a sorry sight) Anyway... his sac grew to be like 2x the size that is was before.. when i took him to the vet to get his antibiotics and steroids to fix the problem i joked around and told them it was supposed to be a reDUCTION not an IMplant!

that being said if yer pup keeps licking you might want to try one of the cones for a little to give the thing tme to really heal...

good luck!

ZsaZsa had an infection after her spay. The vet said that it is pretty common in Boxers. The vet picked and popped the infected area to let fluid out. She was prescribed some antibotics and it healed right up! Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. As it turns out about an inch of the stiches didn't disolve and the vet pokes the two lumps and pulled out the stiches. He's on meds for a week and i have to clean it with peroxide. He seems better! thanks again,
