I'm still trying to figure out what kind of stay at home job allows you to not actually work and play with your boxer all day. Most of the stay at home jobs I've heard of still require employees to actually work. Just having the dog in the room while you work is not the same as giving the dog one on one time. Here on BW, bedtime is one of our favorite topics. We all talk about how wonderful it is to have our babies crawl in bed and cuddle with us or sleep beside our beds. You won't find responses in those threads about how wonderful it is to let your dog out at night to sleep in his or her dog house. With that said, this thread was intended to be about dogloos and not our opinions about how you should raise your dog. I just can't help but remember that ALL the information on boxers that I've read says that they are indoor dogs. I just think you should be keeping that in mind.

At least he will be with his dog all day, even if he is not playing with it non stop it will have the company that it needs throughout the day. Also thats right, he asked about a dogloo, not to be ridiculed about letting his dog sleep outside. But its also true that a boxer thrives on attention and saying to someone that because they are working all day you shouldn't get a boxer. Its exactly the same and people dont need to be unnecessarily put down for it. Only yourself can decide whats right for what you own.

I'm just curious but isn't that going to cause seperation anxiety? For this puppy to be with it's human all day and then suddenly tossed out at night? Or a bad punishment. I know I can't leave my girl out without me being out there with her. She yelps, barks, and howls. That's because she lived outside before I got her and now she lives indoors and wouldn't have it any other way.

"Only yourself can decide whats right for what you own."

So if you don't want to deal with your skin babies crying all night you should put it outside? After all, the weather is right and it will be in a cage so no wild animals could get to it or anything.
That's crazy, as is the idea of getting a dog that thrives inside and putting it outside for the night. If it is inside all day anyways, as you say it will be, why not let it stay inside during the night? You might have to deal with crate training for the first week or two but in the long run it will produce a much happier dog.

What if it thrives outside? What if it loves to lie under a tree in the sun? If it does then i say its cruel to keep it confined inside and always wanting to go out. All dogs are different of course. Just like people. Some like outside, some dont and whatever your dog likes you should cater for it (within reason). A puppy will cry wherever it is for the first weeks/months! Whether its in a crate or outside! Dont you think it sees a crate as punishment as well? Puppy has just spent all day playing with you and suddenly it is confined to a tiny room without your company. To some people that may be cruel as well. Personally i love to have dogs inside snuggled up in bed with me, and mine does this until i HAVE to put her out. But if someone wants to let their dog sleep outside and provides a safe, comfortable, warm place then dont all jump on him to tell him what a terrible parent he is going to be and that he shouldnt have a boxer! Its shocking the way some people just assume this dog will be shoved outside never to have human companionship.

"So if you don't want to deal with your skin babies crying all night you should put it outside?"

Dont be rediculous. What if someone told you you were doing a terrible thing by (example) home schooling you child and said that you should never have had children? Its discusting, its rude, and its telling other people how to live their lives. The world is full of people who want to rub their beliefs on others.

The o.p. asked not to be chastised, so respect his wishes and if you dont have an answer to his dogloo question move on!

I agree with Checkers completely, well said. My dogs are outside from when we go to bed around 11 pm and they are out all day while we are at work, all other times they are with us. They are perfectly happy to be out. Most times when we are home the door is open for them to come and go as they please, my female spends more time out and my male tends to be in more. I think as long as they have a warm, dry and comfy place to sleep, there is nothing wrong with having them out. There are places in the world that have very mild climates with no snow and freezing temperatures. I often find my two have pulled their bedding into the middle of the lawn, they do it in winter as well, and there they sleep together, they have their dry warm kennel, but no there they are out under the stars, they run around in the rain, by choice, and they swim in the pool when they want. Here, if you don't have a yard for your dog and you have to work, you simply don't get one, I first heard about crating on boxerword and I must admit I was shocked. I find crating a dog for 8 hrs at a time far more cruel than letting them run freely in their own yard all day. On thinking about it, I can understand the need, considering you can't very well leave your dog out in the snow while you are at work. Personally I would still not do it, I would rather not have the pet, but that is my opinion and until now I have kept it to myself. All our situations are different and our methods of keeping our pets are too, it is not to say we love them any less or better than the other, or that one person is more correct than the other. I really don't think it is fair for everyone to jump on Alan or anyone else for that matter for having their dog sleep outside. I am sure there are many more people who have their dogs sleeping outside but don't say anything exactly for this exact reason.

Alan to me the dogloo sounds like a great idea, we don't have them available here that I know of, but I am going to have a look into it as well.

Lisa P lol thanks for helping the cause! It sounds like your dogs are real characters dragging out the bedding under the stars :D I often hear lily in the middle of the nite having a boxer burn around the house and im glad that she can let off some energy and go toilet whenever she wants. I too have mild climates that are always changing but not extreme. Four seasons in one day here!
Lol i wish we had dogloo's here. They sound very cosy and den like. But for now ill have to stick with my crappy looking (but oh so well working) tunnel that i made

Lol we also get the four seasons in one day, especially this time of year, and we also get the boxer burn going around the house in the middle of the night. It sounds like a couple of horses galloping up the side of the house sometimes, its so funny.

Hopefully after this thread more people will chat about their outdoor boxers, mine definitely love it. I am all for the good advice on the site and the promotion of good awareness, but I find some posters to be very condescending in their tone, I don't normally bother but I had to add my 2 cents this time. I usually go with the, if you don't have anything helpful to add, rather keep quiet and move on.

I think I might just make my own tunnel as well, I never thought of that before. What did you make yours out of ?

Yeah people shouldn't have to hide! Lol its also funny when she is cleaning herself in the night and she gets a good spot and you hear the BANG BANG BANG of her foot against the kennel. Wakes everyone up and i laugh  . I keep the doors open all day too, even if its raining so she is never confined to just the house. She likes nothing more in the morning to lie in the dirt nexto the door in the sunshine :D Lily is my best friend and for anyone to say what i do just isnt right and i shouldn't have her sucks! My heart just drops.

Oh lol umm its a real DIY job. I fished out some old wardrobe railing (wood would work) and screwed it into the front of the kennel outwards, then i put a tarp over it and tightly secured it into an upside down U shape. Its about 70cm long and keeps alot of the wind and all of the rain out. The kennel is under the umbrella from an outdoor seating set and the house roof so she is very sheltered from everything :)

I had a look at the dogloo online and it looks a little small for 2 dogs. Our two always sleep together so we had to get a kennel that would fit them both easily. Their kennel is also well protected, our wind an rain always comes from the same side, so it is easy to face it away from the weather, but I wouldn't mind adding a tunnel just to make it that little bit more snug than it already is.

Sugar and Ray love to sit against the yard wall when the sun has just come up. They sit upright leaning on the wall, as boxers do, falling asleep with this look of pure bliss on their faces. Then when they think it is time for us to wake up (only on weekends funny enough ) they will come to our bedroom which has a door leading out and have a huge sniffing and smell if we are awake yet. We let them in to say good morning and then they just go right back and sit in the sun lol. Maybe we should start a whole new thread lol.
