Hi all,

we're picking up our 8 week old red & white female boxer next weekend and are planning on getting an outdoor kennel for her when she is a bit older and no longer needs to be kept indoors.

Before you jump off your horses to tell me that a boxer is an indoor dog and can't handle extreme weather, I live in Ireland and have a vastly different climate to the US climate. It is very temperate and the temp stays the same most of the year. It does rain and it does get cold, so for those extra cold nights we'd bring in the dog. Anyway, back to my point.

Has anyone any experience of these Dogloo's? I believe the Indiglo has an offset entrance which will keep out the wind and it is warm and easy to clean. Good buy or bad buy?

Kind Regards,

Alan.

What about the love and attention that all boxers crave? Please reconsider keeping your baby outside, boxers are people dogs and need to be with their family always. They don't do well keep alone outside. They thrive on love and affection...

Hi there,

please don't misinterpret my intentions here. Our new pet will not become a cast away outside dog. She will sleep outside and that's it, but will have my attention the whole day since I work from home.

So my query is about the dogloo in particular, not the disadvantages of keeping a dog outside, because that is something I am acutely aware of and frankly don't want to have my query misinterpreted drawing me in to defend something I'm not going to do in the first place.

Thanks,

Alan.

Jake's boxer buddy Woogie has a dogloo. When it gets really hot like it does in West Texas, Woogie will go in it to get out of the sun. Thats about all they use it for though. He sleeps on a doggy pillow on the floor in there bedroom.

I agree with Layla's mum. Maybe a boxer is not the right breed for you. Boxers need their humans and really not outside dogs.

I agree with the above poster. Boxers need their humans. And personally there is nothing better than having a boxer snuggled next to you at night.

My point being that the dog will get an awful lot of human interaction, since I'm at home all day and will be with me all day. Please don't misinterpret my intentions.

You know that your new puppy will get all the love and affection she needs, thats all that matters. You never know, once you get her you might change your mind about her sleeping outside. But never you mind what anyone says about the subject. You know whats best.

Thanks Jake and your snake,

we really can't wait for our puppy to arrive. We did a few months of research before choosing a Boxer so we know what is ahead of us. Both of us grew up with different dogs so if we only wanted a dog which could be kept outside all day, we would have picked something vastly different to the boxer.

Our climate allows us to keep our dog outside at night in a dog house, a lot of breeders do that here too.

Thanks

Alan.

I looked at the ones they had online at petco. It sounds like a good buy. Structural foam construction is warmer in winter and cooler in summer. I'd get one of the pillow beds to go in it so she would be extra comfy.
