Boxer Pal
Hi there. I have an 8 month old boxer who in the past 4 days is giving me fits. Let me explain a little background first. I've been crate training him since about 4-5 months. I always put him in the crate when I leave for any extended period of time. Recently, I've wanted to start leaving him out of the crate to see if he is finally housetrained. Here is what has happened.....

Wednesday- I left the house to go to my car, was gone approx. 5-10 minutes and came back to find that he had peed on my bed.
Thursday- I left the house to check the mail, was gone approx. 60-90 seconds, and came in to find that he peed right by the door.
Friday- I was using my punching bag (I have one set up in the house) and he came right up next to me and took a poop.
Saturday- After taking him out some 15-20 minutes earlier, he came back inside and peed right in front of me on my bed.

Now, on Wed. and Thurs. it wasn't as if he could not hold it any longer. He had been out and done his business not long ago (maybe 2-3 hours) of which I know he can hold it that long. I'm just wondering why this is happened right now on top of each other. He has had maybe 6 accidents since being introduced to the crate, and most of those were because he was sick. Additionally, when I am home with him, he almost never has any issues. I'm thinking he may have SA (separation anxiety) because he also follows me like velcro at home. I live alone and am pretty much the only person he has ever known.

Anyways, what is going on here? Can anyone help? This is amazingly frustrating. He is a smart guy, I know that for sure. Is he just not taking to housetraining? Is it SA? Any and all help here will be greatly appreciated.

Potty training from my experience is a long process. It took Aasha awhile to go accident free. Do you usually take him out before you leave the house during those extended times you put him in the crate? If you do, maybe when he had those accidents in the house when you left him out of the crate that he felt he had range to go inside instead. My best experience with potty training was to keep to a schedule as much as possible. In this way Aasha learned when it was time to potty and eventally learned all those times were when being outside. Hope this helped a little. :)
