I had lost my 4 y.o. female (Penny) to gastroinstestinal lymphoma about 5 months ago and am just branching out to breeders about finding a new pup. I have a 16 month old daughter and she and Penny were best of friends. It was a little getting used to for Penny at first, but they hit it off well. My daughter is wonderful with animals and is always looking for "woof" and we felt that maybe it's time to look for another dog for her (and us). The breeder that I have been talking with and am looking to purchase a puppy from just bred her female with a stud that is an English import. I'm having difficulty finding much information online about imports, but from what I understand they have an increased drive and energy beyond the spunk that our american boxers have. Does anyone know much about import boxers, their temperaments, their tolerance for children? I do have contact information for the stud's owner and plan to contact her, but would appreciate additional advice. I know that my daugther was and still is very gentle with animals, but the high energy beyond what I'm used to makes me a little nervous. Thanks for any info.

If you're going to make some sort of "difference" between US boxers and those from other countries, then it is impossible to just call them all "imports" and assume that the characteristics of dogs from everywhere else are all the same. It is a nonsense.

There is as much difference between a dog from British lines and one from French, or German, or Italian, or Australian, or Japanese lines as there is between each of those places and the US (or even between East and West coast US!). And as much similarity too - which is by far the greater portion of the equation.

As a very broad generalisation, I think you'd find dogs from this particular part of the world a little less hyper. Individual lines would be a far greater influence than a broad country-specific generalisation though (and hence a far more accurate indicator).

Thanks for the reply

Thank you for the reply on UK boxers. I actually got some emails back from the breeder as well as other breeders that own boxers from the UK. It is quite particular in the line and I guess I had been misinformed about the differences with a boxer from UK vs US. I was told that there are some that are quite hyper beyond those of the US counterpart and then there are many that more docile. The exact same as you would find in the US pending the temperament of the parents being bred. I was just under the impression, from what I was told, that UK boxers (in general) had more drive/energy.
