Ali is 17 months and had all is "first year" shots. He is now due for his Rabies, and DHLP distemper. It is also time for his Bordetella and Corona boosters. I've come across some articles which suggest the booster shots are unnecessary. So, now I'm confused. Which shots should he be getting on a yearly basis?

Most importantly, what are the legal requirements where you live? Where I live, I am required to have my dog vaccinated for rabies yearly. All the others are optional. In order to keep him allowed to come to doggy daycare though I have to keep him on Bordatella too.

I also have done a lot of reading on the dangers of over vaccinating. I just do the 3 yr rabies and that is it.

I highly recommend that you have titers run. It is a blood test that determines whether your pup is still protected from earlier vaccinations. They are certainly more expensive than the vaccine itself but well worth it. I cannot believe that some states require yearly rabies vaccines. Once every 3 years is more than enough. Good luck.

Generally states that have quite a few coyotes and raccons require yearly vaccines. In Texas, they even air drop rabies vaccinated food in the middle of large coyote packs' territories to try to stem the flood of rabies infestations in the summer. Many many pets that get loose and get into it with coyotes were ending up with rabies, thus the reason for the law.
