My 13 week old just had his second round of immunizations on Friday. Today I notice a lump about the zixe of a quarter on his right shoulder. One of the shots he received was under the skin on his neck towards the right side. I am pretty postive the lump was not there on Friday. It doesn't seem to bother him, even when I touch it, and it feels like it just under the skin (not attached to his flesh or bone) and it feels soft, not hard. Anyone had any experience with reactions of this nature after immunizations? Of course, it kind of freaked me out, but after doing some research on this site have read Boxers are prone to fatty tumors. Just seemed wierd that this popped up after his shots . . . any light you can shed on this would be most appreciated. I, of course, will be keeping a close eye on it and will contact the vet if it doesn't go away or grows. Thanks!!

Lumps at the needle site are fairly common after shots. It's live virus that's being inserted, after all! So a collection of white blood cells around the site is quite normal. It should gradually dissipate though - over the next few weeks.

That happened to my sweet angel Sammy. Be sure and tell the vet what happened. They may want to change the brand of vaccination next time.

Update on Lump Problem

The lump I found on Odie's shoulder on Sunday had not gone away (didn't seem to get bigger either) so I decided to call the vet. They wanted to take a look at it and after trying to asperate (sp?) fluid from it (which none came out) they determined by examining the bit of tissue that came out on the needle that is an infection of some sort. Not sure where it came from exactly, could have been a reaction from the immunization or from a bacteria that could have went in with the needle (happens occasionally but not likely). So, we have 2 weeks of antibiotics to take to see if that will help. He also has a skin infection on his hip (looks like a pimple with a bit of pus) so they are hoping it will take care of that as well. So glad it isn't anything more serious - had me a bit worried. After his immunizations on Friday and todays visit, I think I might have to get a part-time job :) But, he is so very worth every penny!!
