I'm the worst mum ever!!! (long)

Today I got home from work and put Storm in her harness ready for a trip to the dog park. I put her in the car and put my keys down to attach her harness to the seat belt. Then I shut the car door & realised what I had done! I had locked my keys (to house and car) and worst of all my poor wee girl in the car!!

It had been a pretty hot day and my car is black so I knew instantly that I was in trouble! I ran to work (luckily next door) and used the phone to ring my flatmate but he didn't answer his cell. So I ran home and broke into the house through the wee window in the bathroom (it took some effort but my baby was trapped - I would have smashed a window if need be!) I got inside and thought phew i'll just get my spare car key and get her out no harm done! Well I couldn't find my spare key so rang bf & he had it at work with him! I was furious! Its a 20 min drive to his work so thats another 40 mins she would have to be sitting in the car. Luckily flatmate arrived home and rushed off to get the spare. At the same time God looked down and saw we were in trouble and it started to rain and the air temparture dropped big time! Flatmate arrived back and Storm is still sitting pretty waiting for her car ride. She must have been wondering "why aren't we moving? Is this punishment for chewing your shoes today mum?" I feel sick for putting my angel through this!

Thankfully she is fine I'm sure I will look back and laugh but right now I feel terrible! Storm is enjoying all the extra love & attention from her horrible mother!

it was probably far worse on you, she probably though mommies cars not working today...hehe

I too have done this...but with my skin kids, and know how awful you feel! If you weren't such a good mama, it wouldn't have upset you so much!

Me too! With my baby daughter. (She's 17 now). I t wasn't that hot out but i was in a store parking lot and luckily my DH was about 15 min away, but I had to go inside the store to call him (before I had a cell phone). Felt so bad but she slept through the whole thing!

Thanks guys! Yes I did take her for a ride in the car - how could I not after her waiting sooo long!!! It was pouring down & thunder so we just went in the car - which she thinks is Christmas anyway (hopefully she still does!).

I was wondering what type of skinkid mum I'd make after this (not that thats happening anytime soon!) but you guys have made me feel better! No wonder I have a silly dog - she has a silly mother! Work had a good ol laugh at me after I confessed what I had done BF just frowned at me :( - since this is the third time this year I have locked myself out of my car!

Don't beat yourself up, I've done something even more stupid, but at least it didn't put my babies in direct danger...

I was doing the same thing, taking them out for a drive and I wanted to train them on the stay command... so I had them sit at the front door while I went to the car to open up the back tailgate... well they were great and sat waiting until I said come... and they jumped into the car and off we went to the dog park...

The problem was when we got home and drove up to the drive way, we saw our front door opened... then I remembered that I had them sit there with the doors opened and left without going back to close the doors.

I was sure no one was in our house... but I sent my two fearless dogs into the house ahead of me to get the bad guys in case they had the nerve to just walk in and rob me... :p

Wow the things we accidentally do that frazzle us beyond belief if it could hurt our loved ones! Don't feel bad...as you can see from the responses everyone has their story.
Dave and I went to a movie after eating lunch one day and realized as the movie was letting out that neither of us had remembered to unplug the foreman grill!!! We had taken two cars and it's a good thing b/c I think I must have broken the sound barrier!!! Luckily not many people were on the road (or cops ) and I got there without killing anyone......Everything was fine. We even HAD remembered to unplug it . I thought Porter was going to be toast. :( I still feel terrible for almost forgetting LOL but what can ya do?? Glad everything turned out for you!!
