Tycho has decided that he doesn't want to stay in the yard anymore. We live out in the country without a fence, and he has been great up until now. He used to walk around the yard, and would not think of taking a step outside the boundary line. I thought maybe he needed a refresher, so for the last two weeks, I have been walking him around his yard, rewarding him for staying in. The minute I turn my back however, he is out, running farther and farther each time. Any suggestions?

Sounds that simple doesn't it. No, Our yard is much to large of an expanse to fence in, maybe a backyard space eventually, but no not now.

Thanks for that, but I don't think Ty would like to be tethered to something like that. He has been free to roam while we are outside since he came here, and has always stayed in the yard. We worked with him extensively, but it doesn't seem the training methods I used before are working now. Maybe it is just part of his teen stage, (which lasts how long????)....I am taking him out for another perimeter walk this morning!!
Thank you though.

I know you don't want to deprive him of the freedom he is use to, but I think a fenced in portion of the yard would be the safest thing you could do. As you said, you can't really fence in the whole property at this time, but mentioned maybe a portion??? I am sure you would be heartbroken if he ran off and you weren't able to find him. We hear so much about that happening on here and I would be concerned that could happen to your little guy.

Fencing a good idea

We recently fenced in a portion of our yard for Yogi to run and play in. About 40' by 50' - was less than $1800, and included one three foot gate and one five foot gate. He absolutely refused to stay in the yard no matter how much we worked with him, and I really hated to tie him up. Now we can ALL be outside doing what we do -
