DOES this sound like a good food? ive bought JAMES WELLBELOVED JUNIOR PREFORMANCE. I wasnt convinced that the purina beta was the best thing. havent really had that much luck researching it on here and the web in general...mostof the info is us stuff and im uk.
this claims to be hypoallergenic and says it has
no wheat or wheat gluten
no beef or pork
no dairy products or egg
no soya or cheap fillers
no artificial colours additives or preservatives.

i speant ages in the pet store reading all the ingredients but i have to admitt..i felt a bit lost. the purina he was on only had 4% meat (deravites) so i guessed that this was at least better

Not an expert on food analysis here, but since the first ingredient is turkey, that would seem positive. Also, I'm not familar with the foods sold in the UK. If you search on here for "Whole Dog Journal" you should come up with some threads that discuss the top ten best dog foods (a list that is released on an annual basis).

What I can glean from the food ingredients you listed - rice and oats are pretty much filler, since I don't believe dogs can really digest grains that well. Being carnivores, they aren't wired that way. But on the good side, soy, wheat products, eggs, beef and pork, the things not in the list you gave, can be known to cause allergic reactions sometimes. I feed my two a kibble that is primarily lamb and yes, it does have the rice in it. Also, each day, I give them a breakfast of 100 percent canned chicken, cottage cheese with salmon oil and wheat germ, brewer's yeast supplements. And they get an egg once a week, or some olive oil added on top to make their fur shiny. The other ingredients listed in the food you cite, seaweed, alfalfa, potato protein, linseed oil, they are good, IMO.

Sorry, I can't be more help to you. I remember reading on here that a kibble that had fat as one of the top four ingredients may be a possible factor in causing bloat, so you want to watch out for that. You can get more information on that subject by also using the search engine here. And there was also something about citric acid, or some sort of acid anti-oxidents showing up as a possible bloat factor, which you also might want to research more.

Food analysis requires kind of an expert opinion, I just can contribute a few little items here and there. That's probably why you haven't gotten more responses to your request. You might also want to consider the BARF diet, which is an entirely raw diet. I have to admit, I am intrigued by it myself. Except for the fact that Holly is going on the show circuit, I would try it, I think. The people who use it rave about it.

If the turkey is meal (ie light) it might not be too bad, but it still only had one source of meat. You have to remember when looking at food that the the ingredients are listed by weight. It it just says turkey, it is a wet ingredient and that is heavy. If it says it's turkey meal, it is dry and therefore there would be more of it. Either way that food would be mostly grain. :(
