I'm Losing My Mom

Change in mom - for the good

I can't believe it - or maybe I can. My mom took a change on Friday and has been going up hill ever since. She started taking a sip of water and then some tea and soup. Her blue eyes opend up and she looked around. Her eyes are getting brighter every day and today she ate all her breakfast. Now she is definitely not out of the woods yet. She is still congested and on oxygen and morphine. She also takes two meds for fluid around her heart and another for heart rate. Last night was my first night at home. What a sleep I had. Today, believe it or not there is a storm on with snow everywhere. I can't get to the nursing home but I was assured by the nurse that she is fine. I appreciate your posts so much. They are a welcome to me to know so many of you care. And to all who have lost their mom and dads especially so young I am so sorry for you all. I am truly blessed to have my mom for so long. Thank you all for your care and concern and I will keep you all updated on her condition. God Bless You All. You are all so special.

My mom has taken another turn for the worse

Mom was doing so good but yesterday we got the call that she had taken a turn for the worse. She had a rough day and at times we thought she wouldn't make it. Today she is a bit better but the doctor told me last night that every time she has one of those episodes it makes it harder on her and he doesn't expect her to live past 3 weeks. He told us he's been wrong before so let's keep our fingers crossed. I just hate to see her suffer.

I am so sorry that your mum has taken another bad turn. She is certainly a very brave soul, and seems to be battling every inch of the way. It must be so heartbreaking for you and your family to be on such an emotional roller coaster, please try to look after yourself, I know so well how exhausting, both mentally and physically all this is for you, remember you need to take time to eat, rest and sleep to keep your own strength up.

This is unbelievable

I spent the night and most of the day at the nursing home with mom. She has come around again. Eating, drinking like nothing ever happened. She did have chest pain this p.m. and the nurse gave her morphine to ease the pain. Her blood pressure is too low for her to take nitro. It will make her b.p. go even lower so we don't want that. I left when my brother came and he just phoned to say she is still awake and has no intention of closing her eyes. Her temp. is up again. She has been awake most of the day. She is afraid of sleeping. She told me she doesn't want to die in her sleep. Right now I just want her to feel safe and know she is loved and still needed. The rest is in God's hands. Once again thank you all for sharing your stories and keeping me in your prayers. Tomorrow, please God, I am having lunch with a couple of friends that I worked with. Hopefully, everything will be ok with mom. I could really enjoy a few hours with my friends and relax right now.

I'm sorry I just caught this thread. Your mom is such a fighter! Sounds like you take after her I believe your brother was there that day, too. Is there anyone she's still waiting to visit her or talk to? Just curious because people can be so strong in tough times when they have their mind set on something. I'll be praying for your mom and your family. I hope she passes peacefully when her time comes.
