Iggy's Skin Issue

Iggy is an 18-month old fawn & white boxer male. He spends his days at my house while my brother (his owner) is working.

I've noticed the past few day that Iggy has some patches of hard, dry skin near his neck. My brother called up last night and said that he could pull the hair right out of it with no resistance. He refuses to take him to the vet, and assigned me the job of trying to figure out what the problem is. Iggy doesn't seem to be scratching at his neck, and he doesn't mind when you poke at the dry area. Of course, having lost a dog so recently, I tend to overreact and get freaked out over the littlest thing, so I'm worried to death. Does it sound like anything serious? I'm doing my best to get my brother to take poor Iggy to the vet, but if I get some more informed opinions first, it could help.

I am not sure what that is, especially if Iggy is not scratching, however I guess it could still be some type of mange or skin allergies. I would definetly be taking Iggy to the vet though, just to find out what it is before the condition worsens.

I don't understand why he refuses to take him to the vet?? It could be anything an allergy from food or outside...can you take him to the vet?

Allergies

My baby boy Buster had something like on his hind end. Come to find out he has food allergies and another allergy that I am trying to pin point.

Just my two cents!

mine once had something that looked like that but smaller that due to what the vet thought might be either sun exposure or a food allergy. We took him out of the sun and switched his food to something with no corn at all in it and he was fine.

Good luck!

I think that Iggy's diet has just been changed from Kibbles and Bits to Iams OnePlus. I'll be calling the vet tomorrow morning and giving her all the factors I can think of.

Well, his flea collar did get under his regular collar and my mother thinks it may have been chafing him. It's hard to get good quality food in our area. It's pretty much Iams, Kibbles and Bits, or Ol' Roy.

My biggest worry is that this is some type of mange. Looking at the pictures, could anyone tell me if this looks anything like the mange spots they've seen?

I don't think it is mange...but I'm no dr. It could be where the flea collar irritated it, is he outside alot?? Boxers are inside dogs and don't tolerate heat very well...this could be a heat rash, leave the collars off for a little while and see if it heals up...those foods you mentioned are the worst please try some better quality food..sending slobbery kisses..
