I'm sure this has been asked before and i did look a little for it, but we want to ask. Phoebe is 4 months old and we really want to get a male. Is getting another puppy easier once Phoebe is older or shall we get one soon? Please share your thoughts and experiences, we love hearing them! :) And we have thought about getting a rescue.

it depends

We just went through a similar situation. The only way you will truly know is if your Phoebe meets her counterpart candidate before you make a decision. You may love him, but she may not. IMO, I don't think it's too soon for you to get another one. Just be sure that YOU are ready for it.

In our situation, we have a male and wanted a female. He met several females, before he got "attached" to the one we're picking up tomorrow :D Actually, the first one he met is usually shy, but nearly tore his head off. It really surprised everyone.

I would recomend you wait until Pheobe is at least 1 years old and you have been through basic obedience with her. It is much less stressful dealing with a puppy when you have the first dog under control and trained.

I would also recomend you read up on multiple dogs and dog body language. I recomend "How to Speak Dog" by Stanley Coren and "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldon. Both are wonderful in understanding dog issues.
