I am so, so sorry for your loss. I pray sweet memories bring you comfort and peace. You sound like a kind and loving dog daddy to me, and you were young and you still made sure this guy had a great life. I know it is too soon to think of,but I hope you have more dogs in your day-they will be lucky to have you. God speed sweet Lt. and stay safe at the bridge while you wait for Dad. (and by the way, all of my beloved pups have licked a beer glass and been to McD's)

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it hurts and just know that people on this site are so hepful and give great words of wisdom when it comes to our babies. You can never replace a loss of a family member. It still hurts even years later. Just know that we care and thanks for sharing your story. Hugs from Texas.. again I am so sorry for your loss.

Your post has me in tears. I am so sorry for your loss of Lt. He sounds amazing and you were a great Dad to him, no matter what you think. I can tell you loved him dearly; who else would sing Amazing Grace as their baby passed in their arms?

Godspeed Lt., rest now. Give Isis a kiss for me, ok?

Godspeed, handsome Lieutenant. You gave so much to your Dad and he is all the richer for it. LouDogs_Dad, may time and happy memories ease the pain of your terrible loss.

Thanks Everyone

I wanted to say thanks to all of you who have commented on my loss. Thank you very much it means a lot to me. I've never met such a caring group of people until I was introduced to boxer lovers. Just like the dog they are a breed among themselves. The 25th will be one month since Lt. has left my life and I'm doing a little better. I had him cremated at a dog cremation company in my town and he was given back to me in a little bag that said 'Until we meet again at the rainbows bridge'! I had a company do an etching on marble of Lt. and that is going to be on the mantle next to his ashes/urn.

The vet who is a wonderful vet sent a flower arrangement to the house I don't know if that's normal but I thought it was very cool?

I myself am doing better although there are moments that kick me in the bottom. Coming home after work which was our walking time for 10 years is a habit that to this day I still am saddened when walking in the house and there is no Lt to walk. All in all I miss my dog but I'm doing much better, I always knew the day my dog passed would literally KILL me but I wouldn't trade the 10 years of Joy I had for the sorrow I feel ever.

Thanks again to everyone on these boards for everything from your words of wisdom early in my dog owning life to the words of encouragement and understanding when that life ended. I really do appreciate all the wonderful boxer owners on this board and even if Lt. didn't know it....trust me he thanks you too.

I am glad that things are getting better for you. When I lost Monty very suddenly my vet also brought me flowers, but I don't know that it is usual practice.

Different things will trigger your emotions and "kick you in the butt" as you said. In fact just yesterday it snowed where I live (a very very unusual thing) and I remember thinking that Monty would have loved it and it saddened me for awhile that he wasn't able to enjoy it, but then I smiled as I could imagine him running in it etc and it brought a smile to my face.

Dear Joel,

That your vet sent flowers is amazing! You have some good people there. My vet cried almost as much as I did when I had to put my Isis to sleep, here in our home, in my arms, after 14 years of love.

You had 10 amazing years of life with Lt. He was your special boy, don't ever forget that!

You have so much to remember and immortalize, keep Lt close to your heart, today and forever!!!
