Over the weekend my best friend was talking to another friend of ours. He just got a boxer about 4 months ago (he is 6 months old and 30lbs) . We have watched his dog a couple of times and have always got along. But when my b/f was talking to him, She was saying " God I can not get over how big your dog is compaired to Darby (my dog 1 1/2yrs 50lbs)." Then he goes on to tell her that "Darby is not a 'real' boxer and that his is." I was shocked. Now Darby is registered and has all her papers. Yes she is small but is a full blooded boxer. He was trying to say she was a miniature boxer and was going on and on. Maybe I was taking this the wrong way but it just peed me off. I mean we watch his dog so he can go out DRINKING and he bad mouths my baby!!!!

Sorry I just had to vent alittle.

I hear ya!

I get the same thing with Roxy. She is almost 2 and wieghs 52 lbs! Everyone wants to know what kind of boxer she is and I say Fawn!! They ask when she will grow up, she is grown up. They ask is she is a puppy and I say no, and they usually say we need to feed her more. and on and on.

Just try to let it go, I know it is hard I get frustrated too! But it is thier ignorance that is making them sound so stupid!!! I got Roxy for the Humane Society and people have even asked me if she is full blooded, I say yeah, they say I am not so sure!!!

They made me 2nd guess her size too and if she was pureblooded, but since I have been on here I know she is!!
Good luck,
Shaunna

My Sage is 60 pounds and will be 1 at the end of this month. Her Mom is 45 lbs. and her Dad was 75lbs. Our neighbor has a fawn that is in the 55-60 range.. We get lots of people saying our girl is short, and say she is mixed with pitt bull. (makes me mad) I think alot of people think boxers are only fawn. This is my first boxer and I'm learning so much still after having her for a year. Some people have never owned an animal period but think they know it all.......Don't worry about them...

My girl is small too, I think she'll top out at the low end of the standard scale. she's like 19 1/2 inches and about 40lbs, year old in 2weeks.

You know, I wish people knew more about the boxer standard.

Bitches are supposed to be anywhere in between 21-23 inches tall (it varies a tiny bit depending on which standard you look at) and the weight for bitches is somewhere between 55 lbs and 60 lbs . My dog in particular is 22" at the withers and weighs in at around 48-50 lbs, but she is LEAN. We do agility at least twice a week and she goes to doggie daycare 3 times a week (and that's not even counting dog park/beach trips).

There is nothing "small" about a 50lb female. If you go to a dog show, you will be surprised at how small the boxers look in comparison to what you see on the street. Unfortunately there is this "everything that's bigger is better" mentality and BYB's take advantage of it. That's why most boxers today are so huge. They are NOT supposed to be. Remember the Boxer is a MEDIUM size breed, not a large one.

I get stuff like that all the time with my two boxers. They are both white. My male is huge for the breed standards. 27 inches tall and 100lbs. My female fits the breed standards so far for a female. She will be one in August and is 20 1/2 inches tall and 53 lbs. People always ask what type of dogs they are. I tell them and then they question me if I am sure they are boxers. I have learned to just smile and go on.

I agree some guy at the pet store asked me what my dog was mixed with too because his nose was "too flat "
I told him he was purebred then he went on to say when he got his lab mix they told him it was mixed with a shepard but it turned out to be mixed with a newfoundland dog so much for what he knows. I think he was just being rude because I didn't buy him from the pet shop. Oh well I know what he is and thats all that really matters.

why are some people so ignorant.... If people come in all shapes and sizes doesn't it make sense that dogs would to? Some people think that because "the book" says a dog is to be between such and such amount of wait that it is the end all if they aren't. What a silly comment sorry it hurt your feeling.I would be mad too.:o

I have not encountered that yet. I have only had Tatie in public once so far (she's just finishing her shots). The only comments I received were about her ears (they are cropped and still taped).

However, my personal "pet" peeve is when strangers ask how much you paid. It always takes me off gaurd but I usually try to give them a general answer like "oh, most are within this price range: _ to _". However, a couple weeks ago when I was with Ellie (my Boston), this man in PetSmart just wouldn't accept that as an answer. He kept saying "No - how much did you pay for HER?". After doing what I could to evade, I finally had to come out and say "I don't feel comfortable discussing that". At that point, he looked offended and turned and huffed away like I was a rude person!

I know that in some cultures it is OK to ask that question, but I really do not like to answer it! I don't want anyone (except people I trust) to know what I paid for my fur kid! I'll be honest and say the main reason (my bf says I'm being paranoid) is I don't want anyone to follow me and steal them.

I totally agree and I also get that all the time I hate it especially if it's somebody really shady asking.
