We went to the inlaws holiday house near the beach on easter sunday and fil, bil & hubby took the 3 dogs (inlaws have an 11yr old boxer)to the beach for a good hour or more so they were tired when they came home. we all sit down inside to eat now all the doors were closed so i wasn't paying as much attention as i should have been because they can't get out right? i heard Tigger knock on the back door turned and checked on him my dad says he's right he can't go anywhere Tig knocks again so i ignored him this time (save the lecture of being over protective and not relaxing because of the dogs) anyways a while later not sure how long but i got that sick feeling you guys know the one -- the dogs are way too quite -- i turn around and no dogs insight not in the hallway, not under the tables or on the verandah no where inside i flew down to the back door and it was closed but not locked  i was not happy Tigger can open most doors (thought hubby had checked it) he must have opened the back door and he and brandy where gone - the backyard isn't fenced and they were no where to be seen - well i'm freakin out my heart was racing and ponding so had and fast i'm screaming their names and i stopped heard a really weird noise next door and then the jangle of their collars and then brandy comes back after hearing me call. i told her to go to daddy in a cranky voice and she knew she was in trouble but i'm still missing Tigger so i try the fail proof "Tig do you want a treat" call (he is so food driven) well he took his time but finally came bouncing across the neighours back yard with a big old smile like he'd been having the time of his life look on his face - and here i am fighting my way through the bushes on the fence line (they really need pruning) cobbwebbs all over me still peeking out then i see him i didn't now whether to laugh, cry or go mad at them and the little bugger was like whats up mum i was just next door.

we went back inside locked all the doors and my father says no good panicking mate their only dogs!!!!!! after 4yrs he still doesn't get it, i was still sitting their fighting back the tears thinking god if i cant keep an eye on the dogs what would i be like with skin kids will i cope?? and then bil says you have to give them some freedom or else they will always bolt - i have to say they both shut up pretty quickly when they saw my face.

l couldn't wait to go home i ended up with a very bad headache almost to a migrane so i didn't really enjoy my easter sunday family get together - i didn't want to take the dogs with us because we had my dad in the car with us so i made hubby sit in the back that way he got the licking all the way there and not my dad but i know i wouldn't of heard the end of it from my fil if we went without them as it was we were there for about 2 minutes before he took them for a walk to the beach i made hubby go with them because he can't handle 3 boxers by himself but thinks he can. anyway i just needed to get it off my chest i'm still dreaming of lossing them.

hope everyone else's easter was a good one.

So glad they came back. I know that feeling...and the overwhelming relief when you see them making their way back to you. :)

I understand your panic!! My boys have done that out at mil's house before (20acres). they were next door, romping/grazing with the cows! another time, they wandered down the road (dirt, mind you) and i was yelling my head off, trying to hear their tags! of course, they both had the same look your sweetie Tigger had-- what's up mom, just checkin' stuff out!! after i calmed down from a heart attack-- they got LOTS of kisses, but no free-range for a couple of hours!!! DH was like, don't worry about it, they'll come back... as i'm panicking and going crazy!! glad to hear they're safe and sound!!

I too understand your panic! Just 2 weeks ago a similar thing happened to me. We were sitting eating lunch and it hit me, where are the dogs??? I ran upstairs, no dogs, they certainly weren't in the back yard because you can see them. I immediately went out front and the gate was wide open and no dogs to be seen. I was shaking and felt faint.

I got in the car and drove around the block (we live in a sea of houses), luckly I spotted two of them- they too were having the time of their life (naughty pups) but my oldest, Bosco was nowhere to be seen. Got the first two, then kept driving, spotted some kids and asked them if they had seen him. They had and they showed me the direction he went. I drove that way which went to my street and there he was, in our front yard!

It was a total of about 10 minutes that I knew they were gone and went looking to finding them, but it was 10 minutes of shear torture!

I hope you have calmed down. It took us a full day to calm down from the panic!

I am SO happy that your kids came back to you! Titan bolted out the front door one time and it scared me to death. I was shaking forever afterwards and she didn't even disappear!

Also...I totally understand your frustration with "its just a dog." Seriously it makes my blood boil when people make fun of me because "its just a dog" and I guess I don't treat Titan and Zeus as such. Its like what do you want me to do? Feed them bad food, not train them, make them sleep outside??!!! Whats the point of even having a companion if you're going to treat it like "just a dog"?! Anyway...wanted to rant with you for a minute.

On a good note - this points out a big reason why I love BW so much. We are all so different but so very much alike in our love for boxers. When nobody else can understand how I feel about Titan & Zeus - you all can...and I really appreciate that.

Wiggles from Titan and Zeus and I hope next Easter goes better!!
