Austin went out this morning to do his business and when he came in he was shaking his head and pawing at is ear. I think something may have gotten in there. I can't imagine what, since it's about 30 degrees out there shouldn't be any bugs. But it's definately bothering him. When I look in there I can't see anything, so I don't know what to do. And I'm getting really scared. Help!

Maybe try some of those ear cleaning drops?? The liquid kind, or maybe even try to wipe out the inside of his ear with a warm cloth. If that doesn't help and he still seems in distress prob have to go to a vet if he really is acting like there is something there. Good luck!

Chris,

You can also try putting some peroxide in his ear. Hopefully that will help draw out whatever may be in there.

As a side note, you mention that it's cold outside. My kids ears will sometimes bother them when it gets cold outside, especially if the wind happens to blow in their ears. Two of mine will whine and paw at their ears when they get back into the warm air.

Please let us know how he does. (((Hugs)))

Thanks. It's not windy outside so I don't think that's it. I put a call in to the vet and I'm waiting for him to call back. The girl at the desk said he probably won't be able to tell me much without seeing him, but it's just so traumatic for him to go to the vet, I usually sedate him but I don't have anything on hand. Just my xanax which I just took myself. I feel like crying. I gave it a while to see if it would work itself out, but it's not and he keeps coming to me like help me mom, and I can't do anything for him. I'm just so scared right now.

Something really weird just happened. I was calling the vet back to say I'd bring him in, when my called ID chimed in and it was the vet! She told me chances are he doesn't have anything in there, and since it was a sudden onset she ruled out infection and he's acting completly normal other than shaking his head, so she told me to give him some Benadryl and see how he does. So I'm off to the drugstore, a little high myself, please send some vibes our way that he'll be ok. Thanks

I always put it in a little spoonful of icecream - it slides right down before they even take a chew ~ Cathy

Thanks Cathy. I was wondering how to get it in him, so I stuck it in a fudgesicle and he gobbled it right down! I felt so bad I let him have the whole thing. I gave him 3 tabs, she said for his size 75mgs. So me and him will go lay down for a while, she said it may make him drowsy. Please keep those vibes coming.
