I have had SO many people ask me if Beau is a pitbull. He looks nothing like a pit to me. He has the sweetest face. He is tall and lanky with a graceful prance. I get so tired of people being scared of him because they think he's a pit. I only want them to be scared of him if they mean me any harm and I want them to be scared because he's big!!! I've had other people think he's an english bulldog. I wish people would learn their breeds or leave us alone. I can't ever walk down the street or in a store without someone thinking he's something he's not.

I keep meaning to print off a photo of a pit's face and have that on me, whip it out and say "See the face? Different eyes, different nose" etc.

I don't have to do that, we have one and she is usually walking right along with us. I don't get questions too much though. I was explaing to my wife's neice about how boxers are mistaken for pitbulls and she said "yeah, they look kinda like them". I said "no, THAT'S a pitbull sitting next to you!"

I know how you feel....we get it ALL the time with my white girl Sasha....EVERYWHERE...including the dog park where i expected people to be a bit more educated but OH WELL!! We always correct people and tell them she is a boxer and they look SO confused...sometimes downright rude saying 'there aren't any white boxers...boxers are all brown.">>>>LOL>>>i just laugh out loud and shake my head!!
BTW...your babies are absolutely beautiful ....those are some fantastic pics!

i get that all the time. when i walk my two boxers people pull there dogs away. ladies grabbing there kids. people cross the street. everything that everyone probably gets. its a super stereotype with me though. i am a 6'5'' black guy with a brindle and a reverse brindle. after i tell them that they are friendly and they are boxers, they say "oh really, my ________ has a boxer. sorry, but the color threw me off".

I have never been asked if my Zeus was a pitbull, but I do get "is that an american bulldog" quite often. It doesn't really bother me though....once I tell people he is a boxer most of them say they have never heard of a white boxer.

we have an american bulldog and a boxer...so when they're out together they instantly know ok...now she's the boxer... but WHAT IS HE!!!!????

Do they actually think that you are just going to drop the leash (pitbull or boxer) and yell for the dog to attack? I have noticed people who usually have their dogs out for walk and on a leash, are usually the ones that love and care for their dog's more than the avereage joe!

People are so stupid sometimes!

Although Greta has never been mistaken for a pitbull, I have had someone tell me there was no way she was a boxer...because she has a tail (we got her from a rescue and it was never docked) I felt like taking a quote from Jeff Foxworthy...HERES YOUR SIGN!

Anyone else feel sorry for the Pitbull?

Well, I have to say that I have been a "victim" of the pitbull people myself, more often when Zuzu was really little (what am I talking about, she is only 6 mos old now!!) but I was not offended. IMO, when you look at pics of the dogs as puppies they look remarkably similar. I have known several Pitbulls during my life, owned by different kinds of people, and they have all been wonderful and friendly dogs. I was sad to read that they have been banned in Germany and can just be shot in the head, and that Ontario is working on banning them. It is really too bad that there are so many "bad guys" out there who raise pits to be ferocious animals, because it has totally ruined things for the breed as a whole. Anyway, I guess that is a little off topic, but I thought I would add my two cents.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I didnt even think that other people had the same problem.
Thats crazy that police can shoot a pitbull right there in the street. Thats insane. You would think they could be a little more human. Makes you wonder what they do w/the animals that are wondering the streets.
Our walks are getting a little better the past two days. A few of our neighbors have stopped us to pet Zeus and Isis and so have a few kids. Which Zeus and Isis love getting attention from kids.
I think I am going to just continue to correct people if they mistake my boxers for other breeds or just laugh at peoples comments.
