I have a one year old Boxer named Cassius. To make a long story short, over the weekend we took in a German Short Haired Pointer that is the same as cassius. He will be staying with us for 3 months while his owner is away traveling. The dogs get along great, they play all day long and there has been no fighting what so ever. The only problem we have is when it comes time to go to sleep. Cassius is used to sleeping in our room on his dog bed. Hogan is used to being crated in the room where his owners sleep. We tried that set up since Sunday and it hasn't worked at all. They constantley are barking and trying to play all night. We haven't slept at all!

We have a large crate that both dogs can easily fit into. I was wondering if putting them both in the big crate to sleep is a better option? Actually I am looking for any advice on this. Has anyone taken in another dog and gotten them to sleep? If so how long does the adjustment period take? Any suggestions are welcome ;)

We have looked after a few dogs before. Usually the first couple days are a non-stop play session. After a few days, they usually are so tired that by bed time, they are more than happy to stay quiet for a while. If possible, maybe you could try keeping them as far apart as possible. Put the crate on one side of the bed and Cassius on the other.

I wouldn't put the two dogs together in the same crate. Together they may still try to play all night long, and of course, if there were any problems, neither dog can escape or just back off. How about crating them individually, but alongside each other?
