I Need Help!!!

Cleo looks like a very sweet girl! She is lucky to have a found a forever home and she will repay you with boxer love for years to come! In her "bio" it says she is housebroken so I think she will do well in a crate. You can ask if they know if she has been crated-sometimes the rescue folks will have some info from the owners. If not , or if she seems stressed, start her out slow and she will get used to it. Kongs are great! I would not put too much stuff in the crate A nice comfy blanket, a yummy kong, should do it. It is so cool that she gets to go to work with you-she will love that! Best of luck to you and your new girl

Glad you decided to not go with the Garage thing I don't feel its right. I looked at her petfinder add and she is sweet I have a feeling you will not have to crate her long at all she looks like she will be fine both my dogs are left loose all day when we are at work, one is only 1 1/2 years old and we used to crate him but don't anymore. The 7 year old we adopted we never crated and he has been fine no accidents or chewing. I would go with an x large crate with room for turning around we have a large one and its kinda small for a full grown boxer, but our boxers are good house dogs and spoiled Cleo looks like my Harley she looks like she likes a comfy couch far better then a garage floor!!!

I agree with everyone so far. I know that there aren't many Walmarts in PDX, but there is one off of 82nd, south of Johnson Creek Blvd. They have the best metal crates and the best prices. I would get one from there. Costco has had a nice crate lately, we picked an additional one up from there 2 weeks ago. Good luck, she looks so sweet. I truly believe the crate is a much better idea until you can be sure she will do well with the new transition and environment.

Can't wait to hear how she is doing!

First of all I love the name. I have a Cleo too! Both my babies are crated when we are at work. It keeps them safe from anything they could get into. They don't mind it. They will go in their crates just to rest when we are all in the family room watching T.V together.They do need their walks and exercise every morning and evening however. I do not put water and food except for a Kong or an everlasting treat ball in their crate. I would hate for them to have to go to the bathroom and not be able to go. I do have someone come at noon to let them out to go to the bathroom. They are the first I have ever crated. I always felt it was cruel but after reading all the dog books and talking to my dog trainer I'm hooked. Good Luck with your Cleo!

Re: Garage NOT a good idea!

When I first got Cisco, I also made the garage his little home while I was at work. I did not know best, he was my first dog ever! Anyway, he became very destructive in there and later grew to be very aggressive. I had to send him to a professional trainer to help me with his aggression. He told me his living enviroment (the garage) was a big part of his aggressive behavior.

With much training to rehabilitate him back to a normal dog, I bought him a crate. It worked wonders!! I would leave him in the crate, inside the house, with a few toys and a tv on. He was comfortable knowing that he was inside the house where we humans live and I think he felt that he was now a part of the family.

Cisco now runs loose in the house all day and does not destroy anything or do his business until I get home. He is a great dog.

Now I have Leila, who just turned 10 months. She is crated all day until I get home. She listens to the tv and sees Cisco loose in the house. She really enjoys being in there until I get home. She is going towards the right direction!!

i wish i could figure out how to keep them from tearing up the house. i crate and have them outside in kennels. Outside if the weather permits, inside if it doesn't. Hope that helps
