Dogs really have emotions.

Now you may be saying "Jenny we all know that!" BUT, something interesting happened to us this weekend and hubby and I both looked at eachother and couldn't believe it.
Here goes: we went for a walk yesterday morning early I had Disney and Hubby had Oskar. About 4 houses down a golden came out from the back yard and out came the mom. There was no charging or anything, the golden came up to Oskar and sniffed the dog sniff. Oskar thought they were playing so he played typical boxer style. I had picked up Disney in the mean time. THe Mom is screaming at her dog trying to get him. Again they are just being loud and jumping. I'm trying to help hubby get Oskar when they break apart. Disney was barking at them. It went on about a minute or so but Disney started to cry and wimper. It as like he was scared for Oskar. We finally got Oskar and mom got the golden (never said sorry or anything just took her dog in the house) I put Disney down and he went right up to Oskar and was giving him kisses! We couldn't believe it! It was like he was making sure he was ok. I guess they form a bond stronger than we think!

Jenny, that is a neat story. Even though we KNOW they have emotions, sometimes it's a good reminder when we see it.

I think Lael is smiling when panting after a long playtime in the park. I love her so much and I love to take care of her and see her happy. I love to see her smile at me like that.

I truly believe that they do form bonds with each other. Disney was clearly worried about Oskar - that is so sweet!

I had mixed breeds growing up and when we had to put my Dutchess to sleep our other dog, Coffee, was sad for months. He didn't understand where his old girlfriend had gone. I've seen it with cats, too.

Great story...

My younger one Courage has kennel cough at the moment and I'm treating her on my own with vitimin C and cough syrup... and so because her dish has these medicine mixed in, I had to stop BooBoo from poking his nose into her dish when she wasn't able to finsih everything.

I said out loud to BooBoo, your little sister is sick and that medicine isn't for you. Then he went and sniffed her butt and as if he was the doctor, decided that she was indeed sick and spent the rest of the night with his paws laying on top of her as they layed on the couch. Usually it's Courage who is the attached one who needs to have a paw on somebody else's body... but on this night, BooBoo showed that he was caring for her...

When Samantha doesn't want Beau to bother her, she will *correct* him, and sometimes, he gets mad!! He will keep on bothering her, until she really gets after him, and then I usually have to intervene because he's really mad then.

On the occasions when he doesn't get mad at her, he will whimper and walk away, like he's really disappointed that he can't play with her in the manner he wants!! He's a very vocal doggy! He just talks all the time.

Oh yes Jenny, they definately form an emotional bond with each other! Poor Disney was worried about Oskar...just had to make sure he was ok! Good thing for that Golden he was or he would have dealt with Disney!!
Xena has a "could care less" attitude with Spirit, but if I was to clip his nails, clean his ears....she's got her nose right in there wondering what I'm doing to him and when I'm done, she licks him all over like she's saying "Oh Spirit, what did mommy do to you...it's ok..I'm here"!! :p
My moms 2 boxers suffered a loss of a dear friend that lived with them for 5yrs. He was a pointer/lab mix...Storm. He died of cancer just a short while ago and Spencer and Sheba took it very hard. In his last days they coddled him...licked him like crazy...cuddled with him. Since he has passed on, both boxers cry alot. They go to Storms bed and push it around then lay on it. They act very sad, laying their heads on Mom's lap looking up with those huge brown boxer-eyes! It just breaks my heart cuz I know they are grieving for their friend! :(
