My wonderful babyboy has decided to bring on a new habit. He is digging up the rug by the bedroom door. He has ripped up all of the padding underneath the carpet in the hallway and will not stop ripping it up. He has been shown what he has done and been told no. He has been put outside for "time out," but he keeps going back for more. The problem is we can't put him in a crate b/c he hurts himself in it and he's been left in the house alone plenty of times, but all of a sudden, he's starting to chew the carpet up. Anyone have any suggestions?

hardwood floors. Come on, you know you wanted them. He's just telling you that you get the new floors! LOL

Evie had an episode of digging when she was about 8 months. She too would freak out in the crate, so we put her in our bedroom with the door closed. Well, new years eve, she decided she didnt like to be in the room. We came home to a monster hole in the carpet. I was surprised how far under the door she was able to tear up. I now have hardwood and L-O-V-E it!!

Since then, we have given her free roam of the house.

carpet tears

Sounds like my new pup! She ripped two spots in our fairly new berber carpet just playing around! Then, she managed to get into our office (the door was shut) and got trapped when the door closed behind her. Not only did she tear up the back of the door and door frame, she put a good sized hole in the carpet at the seam! This carpet was just put down last year! I'm about ready to rip everything up and have concrete!

My aunt once had a chow mix who decided to "eat" carpet and managed to do quite a bit of damage. We never learned why she did it or why it started at such an old age! Guess they just need fiber occasionally!

My last boxer Hailey(rainbow bridge) used to do that. My vet said that they liked the fiber in the carpet. Maybe they are missing something in their diet. Sounded kinda silly to me but who knows.

Do you like hardwood floors?? If you do, I too would suggest them.

Just this past sunday my hubby and I pulled up all the carpet in our house, we were lucky enough to have decent hardwood floors underneath the carpet. There are so many pluses! No worries about stains on the carpet...no more dog smell at all! <<that is definatley the best part of it all! And now I just dont have to worry about it. I love the floor! We just want to sand it and refinish it. Good luck!
