Big Tex

Boxer Pal
I got my boxer boy 2 weeks ago, he is 11 weeks old now and growing like a weed. I'm 18 and on my own for the first time for the past 4 months, my family was great and I still see them 2 or 3 times a week. The thing I missed most was having my dog, he is really the family dog so that's why he stayed home. I did a lot of research and have wanted a boxer all my life. This website and all of the people that take time to post and answer questions and take the time to love an amazing animal like the boxer helped me in my decision making process tremendously. I am extremely happy with my dog Tex (soon Big Tex). My roomate and I go to a high school down the street with Tex just about every night and throw the football around while he chases us till he cant go anymore and just plops down. His stubby little tail that he insists chasing, his boxer burns that he gets distracted in the middle of, his woo woo's and barks have made me extremely happy and I am grateful to all that have ever posted because knowing more about the breed made me want to bring one into my life, a decision that will bring me joy for years to come. Thanks.

I am so glad you're so enamored with Tex. They just capture your heart right from the beginning, right?

Hope Tex is enjoying the cooler weather down here like Sam is!!

He's still a pup so he's getting into everything but your right, I can't be mad. Yeah, he loves it, he hops around like a rabbit when we go out and run.

How sweet! lovicon BW is more than about Boxers  it is a community and you get to know these people and they become friends! Glad you are enjoying BW and Tex!!!

Congratulations on your baby boy Tex - that's a great name IMO as that was my Godfather's nickname. He will bring you years of joy and laughter; there really is no other breed like a Boxer!

Congrats on Tex and as he grows and grows on you, I'm positive you will never feel for any dog like you will feel about a boxer - they're so special, they're almost human.

Moving out on your own, especially at the age of eighteen could be rough and cause some homesickness, but with a dog as great as a boxer I doubt that that is going to happen. ;) Good Luck with your little man. I don't know if you have read about boxer babies and their hips, but a lot of excessive exercise in one so young can cause some problems with the hips. You might want to do a search here on that particular subject so you will know how much exercise your baby can handle without hurting himself. Boxers are so willing to please that they won't stop activity even when tired because they want to please their masters so much. I learned this the hard way with my baby and the laser light, I didn't know that she wouldn't quit running it when she got tired and she almost collapsed. I had to sponge her down and we feared that she would need to see a vet. I felt terrible about this, but I didn't know. Have fun with your little one, you will become very knowledgeable about the boxer breed here at BW.

I've lived on my own since I was 17 (I had a late birthday and started school at 4). I know how scary it can be at times. I'm SO glad that I have my boys to keep me company and to keep me sane. I've also found a home here at BW. When I need advice or even a good laugh, I don't even think twice about logging on. I'm so glad that you chose a boxer. With all of the uncertainty that growing up can bring, you can always be certain that Tex will be there to comfort you and to make you laugh. It sounds like he's already captured your heart and that puts a huge smile on my face!

Thanks to all of you have posted replies. It is nice having someone there, luckily my roomate helps out and has a soft spot for the little guy also and anytime I bring him over to my parents I wonder how I'm going to leave without my parents trying to keep him! I have read that about their hips and will start paying more attention to that, fortunately though I think we wear out and call it a day long before he does. He really is special and I can definitely see why there is a website with over 2 million people completely devoted to this wonderful dog.
