Boxer Pal
Please reassure me that it will. I introduced my 8 year old neutered lab to my non-spayed 11 month old boxer. The lab is super friendly and the boxer is kind of skiddish -- slow to warm, so to speak. When Hotdog met her, he got really excited at a new friend -- he loves new friends. But then he got to REALLY liking his new friend. His new friend (by the way, that's my boxer) is a poor little virgin and was horrified at what he was trying to do to her! She howled and howled until I brought her it for the night. That's when I found out how well she did inside with all of us anyway.

My question is this..Will that get better with my lab once my boxer is spayed on April 15th?? She's not in heat and will hopefully make it to the day they can work her in without one. Hotdog was neutered at about 4 months so that this would have hopefully never happened. I want them to enjoy themselves, but not sure how to finish the introduction. Could this all be a dominance thing going on? Or hormones?? Or both?

Thanks

Interesting, I've known a few male Labs like this. It could be happening for any number of reasons and I don't think spaying your girl is going to help a great deal, unless she is actually coming into season - neutered boys still think like boys. It could well be just over excitement on Hotdog's part - he may just be doing this for want of anything else to do.

It's probably best if you work with your Lab so he can learn things to do instead. I would not leave them unsupervised - it is not fair on your girl and it is only reinforcing this behaviour in your boy. Hopefully it will settle down in time.

There is an article on this thread with details on what you can do to resolve mounting behaviour:

All the best with this :)
