I would like to train Dacee to help locate (sniff out) lost pets and was just wondering if anyone with lots of boxer experience if this is possible? She LOVES playing hide & seek with me (me always hiding) & with that huge sniffer of hers she always finds me, when she is outside, her nose is always in the air sniffing new scents. I know that boxers are very smart dogs and she really needs to be kept busy. I had seen a show on animal planet where this lady trained her dog (different breed) to help find lost pets & I think this is really cool, I feel Dacee would be great at it if boxers are trainable to do this. Dacee is 10 mths old & too big for her brithces! Your opinions greatly appreciated.

I don't see why a boxer couldn't be trained for this. You'd probably want to start her off with a basic tracking course class and take it from there. I know my girl (almost one year old now) loves to sniff things out and I often think she is following a 'trail' of some sort, so if our obedience plans don't pan out, I am thinking of learning more about tracking as well.

Searching for lost pets is a very interesting idea - pets helping pets, very neat!

Its called tracking. Or S&R (Search & Rescue). Yes, boxers can be trained to do this work. You'll need a specialty trainer who specializes in tracking or S&R work to accomplish this. And, your dog will need to have already received a CGC certificate before you can begin traininng. These dogs are extremely well trained in obedience BEFORE beginning S&R or Tracking work.

Good luck.

Thanks, I will have make some calls to find out where I can get Dacee that kind of training, I know it will be a long road but in the end it will be very rewarding and keep her from being bored! Thank you for the tips.
