Hi everyone. My mom and I might be purchasing our new boxer baby from a breeder (for the first time) in Tennessee. They should be ready to go within a week or so, but we have a problem...we live in Ohio and we aren't sure if we'd be able to get the puppy here ourselves:(... My grandmother has cancer and we're just literally counting the weeks until she passes away. My mom doesn't want to leave her (I doubt she will), and she doesn't want me driving all the way to Knoxville, TN by myself, she says I'm too young. There's no one around here that would help us, they either want something out of it, don't want to, or they don't feel its worth it. Obviously, we won't be buying the pup unless we can get some help. The breeder said it would be okay if we could find someone to help transport it, she said find out if anyone could/would help before a transaction was completed... the transport would be from Knoxville, TN to Hamilton, OH. If anyone would possibly be willing to help, please write me back. Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, but I know this forum usually has the most traffic.

Thanx for listening...:)

Yeah, but how could I go about doing that and setting it up? And isn't that pretty expensive? Is there a way I could ship the pup inexpensively?

Thanx.

Do you have a best friend your mother has known for some time? Maybe she wouldn't feel so uneasy about you both going together rather than just you. Maybe a BF who could make the trip for you?

Good luck

Anyways, How old are you since your mother seems to think your too young if u dont mind me asking. Also, How many miles is it from you to drive.

Goodluck!!

As a Mom, I wouldn't want my daughter driving alone either. And when you come back, you really need someone to help hold the puppy too. Does your breeder have any suggestions? Sometimes other breeders and handlers are traveling to dog shows and maybe someone she knows could transport the puppy to a place closer to your home for you to pick it up. Good luck.

I think it is pretty reasonable to ship a puppy. I know on most airlines they will let you fly with the puppy in the cabin with you (in a carrier) as long as it fits under the seat. To ship it, the puppy would fly as cargo. I flew with my dog once and it was $60. I think continental airlines. check the different airlines websites and they'll tell you how to do it.

I know some breeders don't want to put their puppies on an airplane but most seem to be ok with it. My dog flew at 5 months and didn't have a problem (7 hour total trip). On the way back she jumped right in the carrier ready to go, wasn't scared.

I will be driving from Florida to northern Michigan the first week of March, straight up I-75... Though it might be out of your time frame, if I can help I'd be glad to do so... I have a 14 month old Boxer (or should I say Max has me) who will be travelling with me, and an extra little bundle of joy won't be a problem! Respond here or PM me if you would like to discuss it further...

You should consider flying your pup. I flew mine from South Dakota to California. The breeder put him on a plane and my boyfriend and I picked him up in San Diego. It did cost around $60 + carrier.
He flew on Northwest Airlines on Priority Pet Program.

I'm so glad we have him now he is such a wonderful boxer.

I am not sure if you have decided to fly your baby home, but i just thought i should mention that most airlines have flying restrictions on dogs with "pug like" muzzles, such as boxers. they will not fly these dogs during the summer months. all airlines have different dates. this restriction is due to the unique and limited cooling abilities of these breeds. it is difficult for an owner of these breeds, but i have to say it is mighty responsible of the airlines to make this kind of restriction. I wish i could have been more of a help, i live in NM. Good Luck and godspeed to your pup.
