I got so mad last night(vent)

did any of u tennesseans know that we have a state law saying that pitbulls can not be adopted out!! that is what the news said, apparently they broke up an alleged pit bull fighting/breeder etc and they are going to keep those pits as evidence and then they will all be put down w/out any temperment tests or anything!! the one they kept shpwing looked like a young pit mix and he was so scared backed inot his cage but he did show signs of wanting to be touched of reaching out a little bit - he looked and acted just like my tessie when we first adopted her - i wanted to cry. then they interviewed the officers who came on the scene and he said every dog met them with tails wagging and just wanted attention and water. that stupid man who had those dogs royally ticks me off but i feel so bad for those dogs, some of them might be able to fnd good homes if only they would let their temperments be tested and change that stupid law - i mean what if their were a law that said boxers could not be adopted!! i wouldn't hve my tessie and i know there are others of u who wouldn't have your beloved furbabies either. PLUS, doesn't that just encourage more irresponsible breeding if there is no way to adopt that breed?????????

I could cry. When are they going to learn to punish the people not the dogs! That makes me so angry and sad for the dogs who never stood a chance at a good life. Life is really not fair sometimes...

I'm not familiar with the story since we live in NY, those poor dogs, it just isn't fair! The old saying comes to mind: "there are no bad dogs, just bad owners". A lot of people are prejudiced against bull breeds (which include our Boxers) since they are tough looking dogs. There is a "non-denominational" bull rescue that has a representative in Tennessee, could they intervene? Their site is at: http://www.ebbrr.org. Why can't the police photograph or video tape the dogs (for evidence purposes) and then release them to a rescue if their temperaments are good and let them have a chance at a decent life with decent people?

They should put down the OWNER and give the dogs a chance! Sadly, that's the way things seem to get "solved" these days. Something bad happens and right away we must have a law banning something. Passing a law does not make all crimes go away. I'm sure there is already a law against dog fighting, they should just enforce that and try to help innocent victims(the dogs).

There was a show like that on Animal Planet lastnight. It was the ASPCA one, cop show. Anyway there was a ring that was broke-up and 12 pits were taken. Only one passed the temperment test and was adopted out. But b/c of the testing they did get to save at least one!

I can understand your anger being a Canadian living in Ontario Pits are banned in our province not just from being adopted out but from even existing here.

I don't agree with breed-specific legislation, but I think local governments just get to the point where they don't know what else to do. I was watching one of the Animal Cops shows on Animal Planet last night (I think it was the one in Miami - I get them all confused) and two stray Pits went on the rampage in someone's back yard and tore open a bunch of bunny cages and killed all the bunnies they could get to. It was awful - carcasses laying everywhere. It's like, what on earth do you DO with dogs like that? And there are just so many people indiscriminately breeding them. Each morning I check the web site for the stray facility down in Milwaukee to check for any Boxers in need. This morning fully 1/3 of the dogs there are Pits or Pit mixes.

I don't think Pit Bulls should be banned . . . I just wish there was some way to stop the indiscriminate breeding. And to enforce the fighting bans that already exist.
