Completely Boxer Crazy
Congrats on the new baby!!
I too got my Boz at 5 1/2 weeks. It was not my choice, but the breeder had issues and didn't want to keep them any longer. He has done very well under the circumstances. :D
Just give your baby lots of love and attention and remember patience is the key. Good Luck!

Congrats on your new baby boy! do you have a digital picture of him!? If so, one of the boxerworld members can help you create an avatar of him and you'll be able to see his picture under your name in all your posts like we have them. :)

My vet likes to wait until 7 months of age until she neuters. This allows the testicles to "drop" which lessens complications during surgery and also allows the dog to "mature".

Right now you should be trying to wean him onto solid food if he hasn't been yet. Buy a good puppy dog food (Eukaneuba large breed puppy or Nutro Max puppy) kibble and mix it with a bit of water. Nuke it in the microwave until it's a bit warm and mush it up goodwith a spoon.

If he's already eating solid foods, great! You should be feeding him about 4 times a day (small meals) and taking him out after eating, sleeping, drinking, and play. HE's going to tinkle, and tinkle a lot!

Glad you're getting him crate trianed already! It'll make things much easier in the long run!

Jennifer :)

How cool you got a white baby!!! I think they are the best. we have 2. <<edited to remove discussion of irresponsible breeding - www.boxerworld.com/rules>> as far as breading there are a lot of good threads here with great info. Remember though it is very expansive to have a litter of puppies an keep them a full 6 to 8 weeks. I know 7 pups started eating solid at 4.5 weeks an a 50lbs bag of dog food goes quick an gets expansive when you feeding mom dad too!! an soft puppy food gives them the awfull runnys an they makes for a mess. so only breed if you can afford the love an lots of time an money.

best of luck

Scrapper's Mom

Besides the alarm clock, I also use a hot water bottle wrapped up in a towel for the puppy to snuggle against. They love it and I always find them sleeping next to it. As far as feeding, for puppies, I feed them four or five times a day, little meals, with the food soaked in water a bit to make it easier to chew. You also might want to mix in a little premium canned food to make it more appetizing for him. It sounds like you are doing all you can to make this transition easier for your puppy so just continue on that path; we got Scrapper at seven weeks. As Chewy's Mom said, always take all collars off when they are in the crate, or any other enclosure, I don't think I put any collar on Scrapper until he was a bit older; he didn't even start wearing one full-time until he was almost a year old. I couldn't stand to interrupt his beautiful smooth lines with a collar - it took me that long to get used to the idea.

Good luck with your new baby - the side effect of getting him so very, very young is that he will bond even more tightly to you now that he is removed from his littermates. lovicon

Thank you all so much for understanding. This little guy is so cute. We went to the vets today and he got started on his shots. He didn't even wimper. What a trooper.
We got a free bag of Science Diet (not the trial size) and a free Sentinel. I asked the vet about neutering and they said he can be done as early as 15 weeks. Now I really think that is TOO early, am I wrong? I was thinking around 4-5 months.
We are going to call him Victor (I think) because he looks like the Victrola (sp?) dog. My hubbys idea for the name.
He is asleep in my lap right now. I guess I had better enjoy it now because I don't think he and I both can fit in this computer chair LOL
Thanks for all of the advice.

But size won't stop him from trying to be a lap dog a year from now! :p

I would wait until your little one is around 6mos to neuter. Also do a search here on kibble and dog food so that you can get an idea of the good vs. the bad. Science diet is really not a good dog food to feed :)

I did the dog food search the other day an saw what was said about Science Diet. The just gave it to me as I left. I didn't want to be rude so I took it with me. :)
