Blushing......wow, I think that may have come across strong. (I just realized that I also quoted the "And I have to admit it tweaks me a bit to have Boxers lumped in with "the mean/aggressive/fighting" group of canines" part.) I don't like having Boxers lumped in with those dogs either. But I also don't like having Rotties, Pitts, and Dobbie put into negative groups. I've had "fighting" dogs, and they were so sweet! Just cause you get one or two rotten apples (the owners, that is), the breed gets a bad name. It's just so sad to me. Especially when the breed is blamed and innocent pups/dogs are put down every day just for being Pitt. And, the meanest dog I have ever met was a Poodle! (not saying all poodles are bad...) and the second meanest was a lab. I guess we should be afraid of all poodles and labs now too.

Hey, Tucker's Mom...soap box all you want. I happen to agree with you.

I get tweaked at Boxers being lumped in with the "mean/aggressive/fighting" dog thing, yes, but I also get tweaked at there even BEING a "mean/aggressive/fighting" dog group, know what I mean? I honestly believe there is no such thing. All dogs are great, all dogs have the potential to be aggressive, and mostly it boils down to who raises them and how.

I guess I say Boxers and Pitts don't look alike because the faces are distinctly different. Then again, I'm educated about both breeds and can see the difference easily. I get frustrated with the ignorance of people, you know? My dog is NOT mean. She'd lick your face off before she'd bite it off. When I see people flinch away from her it makes me so sad...she'd never hurt them. Never. The assumption that she will makes me crazy. Grrrr...

Anyway, I agree with you. Pitts are great dogs. I know a great Pitt named Molly and wouldn't hesitate to own one...if I knew the breeder. But that's my stance on any dog...I want a reputable breeder.

The meanest dog I've ever known is a Pomeranian. The thing is truly a nasty little yip.

Too Funny! But how true...the meanest dog I ever met was a little terrier mix! But seriously, this bothers me as well. And her response was same difference - I guess that shows it all!

I have been sitting in the car with Logan, who is sitting in the back seat, our windows rolled up, and people will still walk around the next car to avoid coming anywhere near us. Or, have you ever been going through a drive thru and the attendant refuses to put their hands near your car because of your fierce looking dog? Some people are so ignorant!

I know what you mean. I just get so irritated (as I'm sure you can tell)....

But, when it comes to my boxer, I look at it this way: If some ignorant fool doesn't want his love, I'm fine with it. More for me!!!

I just wish people would stop and think about what they are saying. I've never personally run into a Pomeranian, but I believe that a bad apple is a bad apple, no matter what the breed. And, silly as it may seem, I am more skiddish around small dogs than I am larger ones. Something about those ankle biters sneakin' up on you, and you never know which ones are nice and which are mean.

I also see what you're saying about knowing the breeder. I read in a study once (I can't remember where) that agression is bred into pitts, but only in certain blood lines. I guess its similar to other birth defects (like heart problems) in the way it can be passed down the line.

And, as for ignorant people...when I take my babies places, they always ask me what type of dogs they are. When I tell them a Boxer and a pitt/beagle mix, they always look at Rosie as the boxer and think that Tucker is the pitt mix. How they can look at my Tuck and think he has any pitt/beagle in him at all is just beyond me. It makes think that maybe the color has something to do with it too? I've been told by three or four people lately (one was a Pitt breader) that they have never seen a brindle boxer. It was all I could do to keep from asking them if they have ever seen a boxer at all.

I'm gonna have to one up you guys. Not only do people think Beau is a pitbull because he's white, I actually had a couple at the dog park ask me if he is an albino. I almost laughed out loud at them. What idiots!!! Beau has BROWN eyes, a BRINDLE eye patch and BRINDLE spots under his coat. Albinos are SOLID white and have RED eyes. Honestly, some people should not be allowed to speak. I just responded with a dull no and walked away to avoid any other idiotic questions.

I would love to have someone ask me that question!! Oh, the things I could come back at that one with....

I wish I could say that was the craziest question I was ever asked but a nurse I work with asked me if my two dogs were the same breed and I own a pug and a boxer!!!!!! So now the pit bull/boxer question doesn't even phase me. The scarey part is she is a nurse and able to care for sick people.

I guess I am lucky! I have never been asked if Rocky was a pit. There are a lot of pits in my neighborhood (threejust on my block) Not sure it would bother me much. I don't care what people think he is. He is a dog. There -Whether he is a pitbull or boxer, doesn't matter. it doesn't make him mean or nice. The way I treat him and train him makes him mean or nice. Rocky loves everyone and wants to play all day! The meanest dogs on the block is a Chow and a Lab- the lab actually has to be muzzled and walked around everyone because his owner does not trust him not to attack another dog! People just don't know enough about the breed, so they are scared. I also think from a distance boxers do resemble pits because of the shape of there bodies. So I don't think anyone should be offended, just need to educate!

I have not been asked if any of my girls were PITS, but at the dog park last week my girlfriend was asked if her lab was a lab. We were dying laughing because this dumb woman walks up to us and says OOOOOO what a cute little boxer....and as she is petting the lab she says and you are a WHAT? My friend answered LAB! She said really? He must be a mix I have never seen a yellow LAB! I thought we would wet our pants laughing. (That happens when you are over 40!) The worse part is that this woman was as serious as a heart attack!
So, our babies arent the only ones that get stupid remarks. We must just chalk it up to dumb people.
