I feel so bad!

Well I love my boxer baby to death and my BF and I recently bought a house (moving in around Feb.), My co-worker has a beautiful brindle boxer baby girl of 3 months. Unfortunately, her partner and her got in an argument and she finally left him, she cannot rent with her pup and I told her I would take care of her boxer if anything would happen. I was planning on getting a second boxer for a play buddy to Vegas. I was all about taking her baby but she wants to sell her to me for $400, the pup does not have all of her shots yet and is not spayed. After purchasing a house I dont have the money at the moment. I feel bad because I know this pup would have a wonderful home, but I know that it just isnt in the budget right now. What should I do?, What should I tell my co-worker without hurting her feelings?

If you want the puppy, but just have a short-term cash flow issue, how about asking her if you can pay in a month or so?

IMO $400 isn't overpriced or unreasonable. And a three month old puppy isn't exactly "used" either You'd pay a lot more, and have more shots to get with an 8 week old pup.

If it's not just a short-term cash flow issue, and the $400 is actually too much, then please don't get the puppy. In that case, you just need to explain to your co-worker that you simply can't afford to purchase, or care for another pet at this time and the puppy would be better off placed with someone who can afford it's upkeep and care. That isn't at all unreasonable, she should understand and want what's best for the pup.

I would ask her to spay her first and then see if she is willing to accept a delay payment.

Unfortunately, she doesn't sound like someone who really cares for her boxer and would probably sell it to someone else who may not take the best care of her.

Or do your best to find someone else who is willing to pay the $400 and is ready to give the love to this baby that she deserves.

Since $$ is an issue, maybe you could offer $50 each pay day. And you cannt skip out on her cuz she knows where you work and when you get paid! LOL :D

I was going to say the same thing...offer to pay her bi weekly...or every week..ask her if you can have the pup now....offer a downpayment...lets say 150....and sign with her ...have it witnessed if she'd like that you will pay her the rest ever other week till fully paid.

If, as somneone mentioned, this is only a short-term money problem the I say go with the plan about paying every week or so. If, however, this is not a short term cash flow issue then I advise against getting her. Think about the cost of spaying and getting the rest of her shots. Your dog food bill will skyrocket...

If you do decide on making payments I would also suggest a contract. Just to be sure that she doesnt back out after you have paid your money.

Perhaps you can get her to lower her price down just a bit (say $100.00) and explain this is to cover a portion of the pups vet costs for her check up and to finish out her shots, then later have her spayed. I would also recommend payments and see if she is ok with that. Please take into consideration that this will be a considerable expense for you down the road with food, vet care and time & training. If you truly feel you can do it then I hope she will work out a payment plan with you. Good Luck!
