I feel like terriebal after ear crop

Hello, firts I would like to say thank you for answering all my previous posts, If I did not thank you with a personal email I am sorry I relize that is bad FORM! please forgive me.
Now for my current problem I took my little Maxine in Friday to have her ears cropped.
I have two daughters the 15yr. old and I wanted to have the ears done, my younger one the 9 year old and my wife were against it but gave in to our constant prodding.
Now I wish I would have listened to them instead I feel so BAD .....I feel the same way I did the first time my older daughter went to the dentist and she said that she had seven cavities I am always so careful to make sure everything is okay and when she said that I felt so ashamed and thought what kind of parent am I , now I feel that way again .
Our dog trusted me and I did this to her .....nothing went wrong with the operation or anything like that it's just she looks so uncomfortable and sad.....she can't go running or playing , can't take a bath .
She just sits there with that big collar on her head and tries to scratch .....If I had it to do over I would and I will never do it to another dog.......I really never was a dog person until we got Maxine I have really gotten atached to her and just feel bad I did this ......anyhow thanks for listening, Bob

Don't beat yourself up too bad. Many, many dogs have their ears cropped and bounce right back. I'm sure she won't hold a grudge! Just think how beautiful she'll look.

Your dogs are very lucky to have you. Your feelings are natural, I think. Clio never had her ears done because we preferred the 'puppy look' that tends to remain if you don't crop. Some people take cropping or not cropping very lightly. The fact that you had two people 'against' you on this decision means that you probably heard all the arguments for and against. That tells me you went into it with your eyes wide open (a very good thing). I think your feelings will pass, as long as you don't have a wife and daughter looking at you cross-eyed over it forever. Believe me, the dog will get over it faster than anyone else. Try not to feel too bad. Regret is a terrible thing to live with.

Do not worry...in just a few days it will be back to normal, just do not for get to be diligent in the follow up, I know a few who were sorry for there puppy having to endure this and did not follow up, yes this is painful too they cry :(and have to be restrained for retapeing but it MUST be done until the ears are standing up perfect. Then your baby will have the look you want forever, and the pain will be over. Please do not badger yourself too much, I too like the cropped look, but it really seems that I am leaning toward natural ears, because it is really unessasary pain for the baby! Good luck...

My husband and I fought tooth and nail over the "great ear debate" My husband loves the cropped look and I just wanted my baby to have the cute floppy eared model.

I think that cropped ears are beautiful and I don't see too many Boxers who seem to need therapy to move past the ordeal , but just make sure you are diligent now that you made the decision and tape/massage those babies so they look awesome!

Don't worry, I felt the same way when I had Samson's ears cropped. I think they like to play up to our feelings also. The end result is beautiful, I actually regret not having our Athena's ears done. One suggestion, our vet did not want that big old plastic collar around Samson's neck, he said it could lay on the ear's and cause them to not stand properly, what he had us do was put socks on his back legs, then wrap masking tape on the socks and fold the socks over. If you do this make sure you keep one finger in the sock whiile you are taping it, I found that it helps keep track of the pressure of the tape, also don't put any on their fur. They look ridicoulous (sp), but once he got use to it he was fine. Too me the stress of those taped ears, and that collar is too much. Good luck! It gets better.

if u look back through some of the old posts about a month ago u will see that we felt the same way u did the night we brought Jolie home from the vet. Poor baby - but, honestly, honestly, the next day she was fine - running around like a dog on crack - chasing the cat, buzzing me, trying toknock my feet out from under me - crazzy! Sure, if she tried to run under the couch it caused a little squeal - ouch - ouch but it just wasn't that bad. I guess it's good to expect the worst and be pleasantly urprised when it goes better than you hoped. And, she looks be-u-tiful. One ear is needing a little more taping, it was only taped for a week so far - well, good luck - Dee

Jackson loves his ears now, although at first it was quite painful but the only thing he told me was he was mad at me for him having to wear tampons on his ears...
