So the other night I got my JoeBoxer a dog bed. They were on sale at Petsmart. 49.99. I bring the new bed home to my 8mo. old boxer. He sniffs, he bats at it. Then he humps it....for a while....despite us shooing him off it. Then, the next day, he ignores it for about a week.

Yesterday, my wife and I tried something new. Instead of crating the dog all day, we gated up the kitchen and left our Joe in there. DAy one, no problem. Day two, however, we came home and found the bed ripped to shreds. Cedar chips, balls of fluff, bits of cloth and a slobber covered zipper covered the kitchen floor.

I just can't win.

Welcome to my world (you can see the evidence in my gallery) Bella no longer gets a bed to lay in when no one is home. She has never so much as chewed on her bed in the living room but let me put one in the hallway when she is penned in and they are history!

Sounds as though your baby is angry with you. Napoleon does that too.
He had a bed for almost a year and one day it stormed while we were away and he ripped his to shreads. Now Sandy had a nice soft bed to lay on and he didn't. I think he knew he messed up. After a couple of weeks, he got a new bed. This was in February, so far so good.
They are so unpredictable.

Punchie had her bed for over a year and did fine with it, up until a couple of weeks ago. I left her at home alone one day, while I went to the lake. Apparently, she was not happy about this, and when I got home, the bed had been shredded. Oh well, she never used it that much anyway. She prefers the couch or sleeping with mommy in our bed.

Darlin did the same thing to her first 2 or 3 beds. Then I stopped getting her actually dog BEDS and just stuck to those super big fluffy dog PILLOWS and she's content. I see her digging at it every once in a while but it's too tough (I guess) to get destroyed.

Day 2...
Well, we tried Joe in the kitchen again today. Made sure plenty of toys were in there. Made sure that there was a nylabone in there to chew on. Then we left...

Shortly after 5PM, my wife arrived home to find that Joe had eaten the trim strips off the wall!!!! Some of the parts were on the floor, the rest???? One can only guess. I know what I'm doing this weekend......
Darn dog!

Hi Russ - I was just looking at the atlas...looks like we live about 2 hours away from each other. I'm in Hamburg, about 40 minutes east of Harrisburg.

One thing is for sure...Boxers keep life from getting boring. My Sugar chewed up a queen-size comforter and spread the fluff from one end of the house to the other. Guess that was her gentle way of telling me she wanted a new one. :)

At least he is having fun while you are out. You know the world's worst dog is a bored boxer!!!

Maybe you should get a crate. I know, I didn't like the idea either, but after a while the damage to the house exceeds your tolerance threshold.
