Boxer Buddy
I took Thor to agility class last night and there's another boxer in the class. He is a five year old brindle. Such a cutie! We do obedience for about the first 20 minutes or so and Thor jumped a couple times for his treat when he was told to "watch". The trainer asked if there were any questions on obedience before we started agility and the guy that owns the brindle boxer asked "how do you keep a dog from jumping...I was just wondering for "her" sake (talking about Thor jumping at me). The trainer asked to borrow Thor and she made him jump and then showed the guy how to correct him. She kind of arched herself away from him and pulled him a little to the side so as not to make contact with her and then she rewarded him immediately when he was on all fours. The guys looked at her and said "why after 3,000 years are you changing the method of training?" She aked him what he meant and he said "the way to keep them from jumping is to grab their front paws when they jump up and yank them apart and stand on their back paw. This is how it's been done for 3,000 years." I can see why his dog cowers to him. I wish I could have stepped on him!! I gave Thor a big ole' hug and kiss...jumping or not. I couldn't imagine doing that to my dog.
