Do share your secrets!

Practice and a ton of treats. She really learned all those tricks within just maybe 15 minutes each! I dont know if its just her or the way I trained her.

Heres my method for most of the tricks. When I taught her spin. I would have her in a sit position and then physically move her in a 360 with my hands repeating the word spin over and over. When I completed the rotation I would say GOOD spin GOOD spin in a real happy voice, give her a treat and then lots of praise. Thats it! She catches on very quickly. I always use hand signals to so she can pretty much do every trick without me ever saying a word.

I can give more tips for other tricks if youd like, just ask.

Kit too!

Kit is so smart too! She is only 11 weeks old and knows come, sit, stay (will stay even when we leave the room and there is a cat present), shake, other paw, down, down and stay, up from down command, she is learning heel. She too would learn after 3 tries and then be like "come one mom , what else?!"

LOL.

We start puppy kindergarten and obedience classes when she is 12 weeks!! We'll see how she does with tons of puppies running around her!!!!!!!!!

We were blessed with our Bongo boxer that we adopted at 2 years, and are teaching her tricks as we speak. Our Jack Russell sits, stays, lay down, lay down "right there", sits pretty, jumps real high, rolls over, plays dead, falls down in the dead bug position when we point a finger at him and say "BANG!", he sings (he will sings any song ya ask him to~owwwwwwowwwwowwwwowow...or howl at the moon, whichever you think sounds better), and one trick he cannot master but Bongo has perfected...with a treat balanced on her nose, "hold it, hold it" and with the snap of a finger, flip the treat up into the air and catch it in her mouth. At 2 years old she has picked up some pretty advanced commands!. Now if only we can get her to not eat our house when we aren't home...hmmm

I rescued Owen at 1 year, and he'll be 2 in a few days. He knows:

sit, down, stay, come, shake, ask nice (beg), hup (jump into car), jump jump (jump a hurdle), back, out, kennel, go lay down (on blanket in bedroom), leave it, off, no cat......oh and crawl.

I'm going to try the spin thing! That sounds like fun. How do you get them to roll over or play dead? Owen didn't catch those the few times I've tried. I must be doing something that is confusing him because he is normally a very fast learner.

Keep up the good work, DAD As you can see by the responces to your sucessful training , you could very well start up your own Boxer boot camp.

What are your treats of choice if I may I ask??? I know Cody loves cheese and taught him sit with cheese, we taught him his name with tiny pieces of hot dogs. with two of us calling his name and when he would come to the one of us who called Cody then we'd make a big fuss of praise and he get his treat, although pretty soon he knew the game and run from one to the other before either of us called him. So they are very smart especially if they like the treat!!~ Vickie..

roll over/play dead

Jack will assume the dead bug position when we aim a finger gun at him. We say BANG!, he rolls over into the dead bug position, then stays there until we tell him he lived. Pick your dog's favorite trick then build on it.

Np problem! My treat of choice, I actually dont even know what they are called. I buy em by the pound at a petco. They are kind of small blueberry size treats. Some are red, some are green and some are white. I dont think they are an extrememly good tasting treat like cheese or anything, dogs are just happy to get anything.

Rileyboy, my treats of choice are just some random treat you get at say petco of whatever. Just multicolored treats the size of a peanut but it does the trick.
