Today is day 8 of the "new child". I have gradually followed the vet's advice and let them play, supervised, as long as no one is yelping. (so far only one yelp and Toni backed right off like the vet said she should) Man can they play. But I have noticed that Toni plays differently with Aubie than she does with Lily and LeRoy. Not as rough. It still looks too rough to me, but Aubie loves it and goes back for more. Aubie is VERY vocal. Much more than Toni.
Why I am so proud of with my girl though is actually two things:
First, Aubie thinks Toni is his personal chew toy. Man I have seen Toni lift her head and Aubie is hanging on. Before I can get there to take him off, she simply shakes her head, gets him to release, then pins him down with her head. He bites her cheeks, her jowls and every once in a while he makes contact with an ear.
Second, Toni is not the least bit food aggressive with Aubie. We feed them separately because Toni is on adult food and Aubie is on Puppy food, but even when Aubie gets to one of Toni's treats, Toni does not do anything but sit and watch. The very first night home I gave Toni her peanut butter and Aubie jumped rght in to get a lick. Toni did not do anything. I did immediately remove Aubie because Toni will kill FOR peanut butter, but I guess not OVER peanut butter. This morning as soon as Toni had cleaned her bowl we let Aubie out and he went right to her bowl and started licking the bottom. Toni just stood there and watched him until he turned away then she started playing with him.
It is still very nerve racking for me because of how vocal they are, but I am trying to be calm and let them play. We still cannot sleep together though. They haven't figured out yet that they don't have to play all the time so I have to separate them at bedtime. Hopefully that will get better once the newness wears off.
