i am pregnant and my dog sleeps with me

I just started reading this thread and I have to say thank you to all the mods who took care of a nasty situation. I'm glad the original poster did not get to read all that. Being pregnant is hard enough on the ole emotions
But back on subject a lot of good advice about the transition if that is what you feel is best.
I did have to smile though because who can't relate to being a first-time parent to a skin-kid and wanting everything to be perfect
It's like we are completely different parents sometimes with the 2nd

first congrads on your pregnancy when my son was born we had a rottie and he always cuddled with us and after the baby came i didnt do anything differntly he was included in everything from bathtime to feeding(bottles for me ) so i let him sniff the towels and the bottles and he got plenty of extra pets and treats as well. before my son came we let him roam around the babies room and get used to all the things in there.

if you dont want him on the bed i agree with alot of advice here, i would put a bed or blanket next to the bed this way he is still near you. however if you want to my son and dog used to lay with us on the bed(when he was an infant) and things were great. good luck

YAY Babies! I am proud mommy to an 8 month old daugther Sahara)...and a 13 month old boxer daughter (Gobi).....

Gobi always slept with us at the beginning, so we moved her to a special bed on the floor beside us a few months before the babe was born. We blocked her into a small area that fit her blanket and water so she couldn't go do potty in the rest of the house. When she got a bit bigger, and stopped pottying in the house we moved in a big comfy 'U' shaped chair, that was all hers. Now we say 'go to your chair', and up she goes.

We wanted our baby to sleep in bed with us, since I was brestfeeding, and for a number of other reasons, and now we're starting the transition of her going into her own bed, so we put a single bed right up next to ours, and that's where she sleeps. Now the dog sleeps at the foot of her bed. They are great friends..the baby giggles when the dog comes up to her.

Gobi is very respectful of the baby's space in bed. We put a blanket on the end of the bed, and trained her to sleep just on it....so far so good!

I recently had a baby, he's 3 1/2 mo old. I thought about this issue when I was pregnant, too, believe me!

My baby sleeps with me sometimes since I am nursing. And Bella will find her way into our bed during the night. She has somehow found her place to be at the foot of the bed, like she knows it is no longer her place to be snuggled under my arm. I don't have to worry about her getting too close to the baby or laying on him, because for some reason she gets "creeped out" and runs away if the baby touches her. I'm not sure what that's all about. She is very interested in the baby and loves him to death-- she's very protective and gentle with him, but if I take the baby's hand and touch her with it, she runs away--it's funny.

Long story short, things will be fine. You may find you worried for nothing!

Comforter maybe?

Just a thought..

Does your furbaby have his own bed? Someone mentioned comforters on the floor earlier.. I was thinking.. maybe a comforter that smells like you somehow? That way, he's still in the room near you, but you're comfortable also..

I kind of had this problem, but with a cat. Butters slept with me in bed from the day I got him at 6 weeks old until I got married.. when he was almost three years old. My husband did NOT like the idea of animals in the bed. It was horrible for a few weeks,, howling and scratching at the door all night. So I put a blanket with a teeny bit of my perfume in the wicker basket that I took him home in the first night I brought him home, and put it in "his" room. Worked like a charm.

Now, he sleeps in his bad at night, and Matilda sleeps next to him.. again, just a suggestion.. I'm not an expert or anything :D

I had this same problem with my Rottweiler when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was SO uncomfortable by the ninth month, there was not room in the bed for me, my husband and the 96 lb. dog, so something had to give and I couldn't make my husband sleep on the floor - We gave her our comforter, made her a little pallet with it on the floor right beside me, and bought ourselves a new one (I wanted a new one anyway!). It worked like a charm! She loved her comforter bed, much more than others I had bought in the past that she NEVER slept on. So that is worth a try. Good luck with your new addition.

I was doing some reading here on BW and just wanted to congradulate you on your pregnancy. I know this thread is a little old but everyone has such good advice. I just recently found out that we are expecting after 2 yrs. of trying so I am trying to read up on making the adjustment with Rocco.
